One of the Public Campsite available in Serengeti. We paid $36 pppn ($30 + VAT) at the entry gate. Campsite is basic with fire pits and bathrooms but does offer view into a wild grassland with forest in background, with giraffes, zebra, elephants roaming around. We didn't see lions but definitely heard them nearby! The staff there can sell you wood but I'd recommend to just find some yourself in nearby dead trees. We slept in our rooftop tent and there was a mix of guided tour tents and a few overlanders, not crowded at all. We didn't have to book anything in advance, you just show up and park. We initially wanted to stay in Dik Dik Public Campsite which is right next door (they're both linked by a short road), but it didn't have running water, as opposed to Pimbi which did. The campsite is centrally located and a perfect spot for a night in nature to explore the Serengeti.

We stayed on this campsite during our Safari tour with Paradise Safari. The location in the wild is great. When we were there some giraffes were roaming around very close to the campsite. But the facilities (toilets and showers) were catastrophic. There was mice poo everywhere. The toilets were dirty. The showers were hardly working. We cannot recommend to go there at all! Better use a lodge nearby, when possible. There is indeed no light and of course no WiFi. So it's very recommended to bring a headlight to check for wild animals (we met a hyena during tooth brushing).

The camp site is on the Serengeti reserve. I woke up to go to the toilet around 11 pm and there were three water buffalo's in the camp site, one on the path to it, and two by the bathrooms. I had to flash them with my flash light so they would move. The bathrooms are kept ok, the toilets work, half the urinals work, but the showers were fine. Not hot water.

Pimbi is a lovely campsite in Central Serengeti. We (4 adults + 1 child) stayed here for two nights and really loved the experience (I will recommend our tour company, Masumin Tours, if you ever plan on going there from Mwanza side).

It has a toilet and shower block that is clean and functional. It doesn't have hot water, which is fine since we are camping and the weather isn't so cold. It also has a large, enclosed kitchen area and a separate dining enclosure. We had a cook with us who made amazing food. The campsite staff also arrange campfires for you, on request for a small fee, but it has to be informed before you enter Serengeti.

You will see buffaloes, hyenas, rock hyrax and mongoose in the campsite at night. We were also visited by lions at night. They sat on the rocks nearby and walked into the campsite after camp fire was done. It is a really...

Pimbi was one of three public campsites in a small cluster. There are lots of different "special" sites and luxury camps sprinkled throughout the Serengeti but this is the public budget option. We stayed three nights and it was pretty ok. Expect to bring your own TP and soap. The showers are cold water only. The meerkats, depsite looking cute and cuddly, can be quite aggressive if they feel threatened. They live in the termite mounds nearby and come out usually in the late morning/early afternoon. There is a kitchen for the chefs and a small enclosed dining area. Bring a flashlight...
