Good basic campsite for exploring Ruaha NP
-7.83332°, 35.08655° Chogela Safari Camp is located in Tungamalenga, Iringa Rural District, 17 kilometres from the Msembe gate of the Ruaha National Park, and offers a good base for game safaris in a serene and picturesque setting. It is a great place to relax and enjoy nature. The camp provides various types of basic accommodation, including tents and bungalows. Friendly and helpful staff assist in setting up your own tent and provide cool drinks. From a small makeshift tent, the campsite offers typically local food.
The facilities are generally well-maintained and meet basic needs, although improvements could be made, particularly in communal areas. Each evening, staff provide hot water for the showers.
The combination of a good location, friendly service and the less visited Ruaha National Park makes Chogela Safari Camp a good choice for visitors....
Read moreNice property and campsite. It's difficult to contact Chogela but he told us he is always there so you can just show up. Chogela is very friendly and helpful, speaks English very well. Ablutions are simple but okay, nice warm shower. The camping spots are nice, big trees for shade, very quiet. Usually there are 10 permanent tents and plenty of space for camping. Because of renovations, at the moment only 2 permanent tents. Chogela can also provide a delicious home cooked dinner and (bread for) breakfast. Village is walking distance, but not much to get or do. The entrance gate to Ruaha is a 20-30 min drive. Beautiful park, really worth the visit! No WiFi, good connection with Vodacom, very slow with Airtel.
About the road from Iringa to this place; about 90 km. First 20 km is tar, then 20-30 km of good gravel, last 40-50 km gravel with very bad...
Read moreVery hospitable staff. Beautiful area, feels like you are in a jungle. Good location close to the Ruaha national park (~20 min drive). We enjoyed our time there. Would recommend.
Minor issues: We only felt there could be some more lighting in the bathroom, as we could not see without our own flashlights. Also, it would be better to have more privacy in the shower, as the window is quite big. We did not mind that much because we were alone...
