This lodge has so much potential! It’s in a gorgeous setting with views of Kilimanjaro and the tent accommodation was large, clean and very comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous with beautiful mango trees and flowers, a small swimming pool, another larger one in the back that is assigned to two larger accommodations, and shaded sitting areas. The staff are lovely and welcoming. Grace, the manager, is so thoughtful and helpful - you get the sense things are in good hands with her. ||There are a few specific things that need to improve for this to be a must-stay accommodation. |1) when we arrived and were shown to our tented room, the entire tent was closed up. The lovely man working there opened up the tent’s main entrance area but left all the outside canvas sides down. It was hot and dark. The tent did have an air conditioning unit, which was great. But the grounds were so beautiful we wanted to look out from our tent. We figured out ourselves how to open the sides up. Every camp we went to from that point on had the tents outer canvas sides open so that we arrived to a beautiful view from within the screened tent. This should be KLC’s practice as well. ||2) the food service is very slow and inexperienced. For example, we ordered tea each morning when we sat down for breakfast and it didn’t come until the main breakfast was ready. Most people like their hot drink first and then usually have a second cup when the food arrives. Secondly, for Europeans, hot tea should always be served with cold milk on the side. ||3) the food was not good. The chicken and beef was so chewy it was hard to eat. The pasta dishes - spaghetti pomodoro in particular was quite good - but the pasta over cooked. The chef would do well to understand that pasta of any kind should be cooked “al dente”. Finally, our lunch box for our safari journey was inedible fried chicken (little meat, too tough to chew and cold soggy French fries). Every lunch box we had after for our two week Safari were full of flavor and imagination. ||4) The two lamps in our tent next to the bed were in bad shape - leaning over - looking tired and old. ||With these small but important changes, KLC would become an exceptional...

Read moreWe arrived very late on the first night. There was one person present on staff. We were not even given the code to unlock our room, the air conditioning was not working and the hot water was off. After taking a freezing shower, we went to bed. The next day we, at least, ha see hot water. The staff is very friendly and helpful so I have no quarrel with them. The food at the restaurant is very good too and the view can't be beat. That being said.... If you have ever hiked for several days in a row, you know that what you look forward to the most is that shower. The hotel knew what time we would arrive more than 24 hours in advance. They placed us in the same cottage. Again, no working air conditioning and the hot water turned off. 40 minutes of people walking in and out to fix the air conditioning. Then still no hot water. They turned on a different hot water heater and told us to wait another half hour. Still waiting, water still cold. I am livid. I expect more from a...
