Hiking or visiting Mt Kilimanjaro? You must stay at the wonderful Pink Flamingo Boutique Hotel. Don’t let the name dissuade you; this is a gorgeous, luxurious, high end boutique property. As you arrive, you are immediately taken in by the gorgeous grounds. Well manicured lawns and gardens abound. As you stay, be sure to walk around the property and take in its beauty and serenity. Relax by the pool (or private cottage pool!) which has spectacular views or stargaze in the evenings. Also be sure to treat yourself to one of the Spa services.
Before stepping inside you will be greeted by the dedicated staff which are extremely attentive to you but not over present. They are ubiquitously in the background but stealthily swoop into assist you with food, beverage or any other need. When not attending to the guests, they are meticulously cleaning every inch of the property. Everything is always immaculate.
The rooms are varied but from the ones we’ve seen are all very specious and well appointed. Large open showers with rainfall heads, as well as wands, are luxurious and relaxing after your hike or daily adventure. Our suite also had a jacuzzi tub surrounded by candles to soak and reflect on the wonders of your daily experiences. Very large walk in closets allow you to unpack and and spread out like home. Clothes cleaning available on a daily basis. Each room opens to the outside grounds with loungers should you want to enjoy the outside in lieu of the common pool patio. While we prefer to get away from our real world, each room has a tv and access to Netflix and other streaming services. The bed was very comfortable and ample pillow’s to suit any need.
The food was fresh, delicious and hearty. Full breakfast with fresh squeezed juices, fruit, breads, pancakes and made to order eggs and sides. Of course the coffee and tea bar is open all the time. Lunch and dinner are made by your co-host Klaus who sources all the food locally.
Klaus and Agate, your lovely hosts, fell in love with Tanzania and decided to stay. They run the hotel with plans to take it over. They are very hands on, as evident by Klaus’s cooking. Agate oversees the operations and is present to chat about local adventures or travel in general. Despite a number of rooms, you feel as if you are in a small bed and breakfast environment. 5 stars all around and I highly recommend for your...
Read moreWhat an oasis! we stayed here as a family of 4 in the cottage, and it was luxurious. We used it as bookends to our 8 day Kilimanjaro trek on Lemosho route, so to have the amazing comfort of this property to return to was just awesome. We had dinner in our cottage once, which was lovely, though the dining area is also very charming and comfortable. The staff kept our mostly empty suitcases safe while we trekked and they were returned to us at reception as soon as we hit the property. The staff work tirelessly and are always helpful (sometimes there were some small miscommunications due to language, but not a big deal). We had the most wonderful massages when we came back from the trek - to soothe our tired feet and legs. The food, Italian inspired, is DELICIOUS. The pasta is divine, definitely the highlight of the menu. Every detail has been thought of by the owner and her family who manage the property. They are all very hands-on and we saw them especially at mealtimes helping in the kitchen. ||The only small issue was the wifi was a bit weak in the cottage - perhaps due to the distance from the main houses? so tv streaming is not possible at all (though Amazon prime video is an option and we eventually logged in, but realized we wouldn't be able to actually watch anything), and even laptop and phones would sorta go in and out with signal - so if you need to do anything important, like check-in to a flight, go to the reception area and the signal is great. Our private plunge pool was adorable and ultra clean - though a bit on the chilly side at our time of the year. The entire property is beautifully adorned, immaculately clean, and even lit at night. There is a little resident gecko in the cottage - a yellowship color, and not the tiniest guy. He/she is totally fine - just took me by surprise a few times as it scampered up a wall, haha! ||I hope you will consider staying at this property if you are ever in Moshi, and especially if you want luxury and comfort on both sides of the trek! it may be at the end of a long bump dusty road, but it's well...
Read moreThe group of four I was a part of arrived 3 hours later than expected after our day hike on Mount Kilamanjaro. We were welcomed with smiles despite the late hour. The owners and staff were extremely accommodating although the kitchen had closed hours before our arrival. A simple pasta dinner was made for us, and was perfectly timed to finishing hot showers that rid us of the road and hiking dirt and mud. The pasta with tomato cream sauce was fresh and light. It was a perfect end to the day and the perfect beginning to our stay. The location is up on a hill so the view, even at night is beautiful. I could see so many stars. The buildings architecture have smooth and simple lines. The inlaid colored glass is beautiful. The landscaping and open spaces are inviting for strolling around the property as well as lounging. The most impressive part for me has been full integration of Tanzanian culture in the decor, from the largest artwork on the wall of Native animals, to the Tanzanian people, and Maasai, as well as the beadwork and other small artifacts of the local people, and the continent of Africa. I respect what the owners have done to marry Tanzanian culture with pieces of their Italian origins. The food: all of the food, breakfast with eggs cooked to order, and handmade pizza for lunch, to the filet and salad for dinner, was exquisitely prepared with fresh ingredients. We had wonderful wine, and other refreshing beverages to keep us well hydrated. The service was next level. I didn't touch my bag after arrival until placed in my room. The food service was excellent. I had a full-body, deep tissue massage by Raheema (sp) that was otherworldly. She massaged muscles that were extremely tight. And it hurt so good. My room was so very clean and spacious. I can't say enough. I didn't know what to expect past the pictures on the website. My expectations were blown out of the water once I arrived. I recommend staying here even if for only one night. It was beautiful and I would...
