We really enjoyed our stay here, perfect location right on the beach. The beach was peaceful, no beach sellers or hassle. A brilliant place to relax!
The staff were really attentive during our stay and we enjoyed the seafood. The breakfast included was substantial and tasty. Great set menu for dinner but also lots of good options on the lunch menu (which you can order for dinner too.) We made a few requests with dessert and staff went out their way to meet them. Highly recommend the seafood platter, plenty for 2-3 people.
3 stars given because we felt that the accommodation was quite tired and not quite value for money. We had to request hot water in a bucket for showers as the solar power system didn’t have enough water. Rooms were quite small for us and luggage. No basic amenities like complimentary water or tea facilities. There are a lot of flies and mosquitoes and whilst staff tried with using repellent, it wasn’t really successful. The room also let in water during rain through the door and windows and generally felt quite stuffy and damp.
The hotel can organise trips but staff weren’t overally encouraging or persuasive so we booked with a cheaper separate company.
Would encourage any future visitors to bring drinking water with you as 1 small bottle was 2,000/=, unnecessarily expensive! We were able to get a bajaji into the town for 5,000 to buy supplies ourselves.
Would still recommend this hotel if you want an easy relaxing trip with excellent seafood! Thank you for...
Read moreWe highly recommend Kilwa Beach Lodge for a family stay. Staff were attentive without being overbearing and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable, which it truly was. ||||Kilwa is a gem and we'd love to return.||||We made one trip to the ruins at Kilwa Kisiwani which was excellent—an amazing site, and the tour was well organised by Kilwa Beach Lodge staff. Other than that, we spent time relaxing on the beach. It was so peaceful and we felt ourselves unwind.||||The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable with a hint of luxury from the many pillows and cushions. As an eco-lodge there is no hot water, but in the tropical climate you don't really need it. ||||The Masoko Pwani beach is clean and the water pristine (in contrast to beaches near to Dar es Salaam). It is better for paddling than swimming or surfing as it is quite shallow. The attraction for our kids was finding creatures and shells when the tide was out, and constructing castles and dams when the tide was coming in. Between that, the playground and the board games, they were not bored for a minute!||||A special mention goes to the restaurant and the chef. The food is fresh and delicious. Servings are generous and well-seasoned, including fruit at breakfast and vegetables and salad at lunch and dinner. We recommend the seafood platter which fed the four...
Read moreThe Kilwa Beach Lodge in the outskirts of Kilwa Masoko is about 12 Lodges with excellent room facilities with beach front view |Though it is difficult to find, as it’s right on the beach using good dirt roads, there is ample signage -We used MapsMe to guide us. |The Staff are amazing, polite and very accommodating. The bath/ toilets facilities are Western with warm ( not hot) showers- it’s worth the experience. They do provide a large bucket of hot water if you want to take the traditional African style bath with a cup! |Our Resturants and facilities attendant Gracie is sharp and excellent English and Ofcourse Swahili and brought us smiles when she spoke about the Lodge and it’s facilities -with humility and pride mixed. The sunset , sunrise and red Moon rise gave us a spectacular understanding of Mother Nature |There are plenty of surrounding trees that harbour beautiful bird species that chirp all day especially on the evenings and silence ensures at sunset |Excellent facilities, nice clean rooms and good ventilation from the sea breeze along with a fan. No need for AC!!!( this January was really hot but it was pleasant at the lodge|Food was very good |Definitely worth staying at this place . Just a word of caution-many hotels/lodges have Kilwa as their main...
