Tarangire Simba Lodge was one of the lodges and camps where we stayed on a 19 day safari through Kenya and Tanzania, booked through Tapestry of Africa.

It is a tented safari camp right on the edge of Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park. After dusk and at dawn we were escorted to and from our room due to the possibility of encountering animals on the path. I’ve seen pictures of elephants standing beside the pool.

We heard what we thought were lions during the night and the staff member who walked us to the lodge the first morning confirmed one had been nearby during the night.

We stayed in the Nyati (buffalo) tent for two nights. It was the closest tent to the lodge building making it super convenient to get to and from, and we could get wifi in our tent. But, it was also next to the kitchen and dining room, and noise from the kitchen went quite late and started early.

The tent was huge! There were two beds but as with any lodge we stayed where one was a queen bed, we only used one. The tent has a very large bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers. We were able to charge phones, cameras and my netbook in the tent with no issues. Sure the tent is looking warn, but look outside the sliding doors, or sit out on the verandah, and that just doesn't matter.

They offer a laundry service and it was taken when our room was turned down and was back in our room the next afternoon.

The lodge has an excellent separate bar building, a raised viewing deck, and a great pool that we spent some time in. They even served fresh popcorn out by the pool each afternoon.

The buffet was excellent. As with all of the lodges we stayed there was a good variety of meat and non-meat dishes with an emphasis on Indian style curries. On our full day there we were asked at breakfast what we would like for our late lunch (post-safari) and it was served to us about 30 minutes after we got back. Chicken and chips :)

Tarangire Simba Lodge was another lodge with wonderful smiling staff, great accommodation and great food. Add to that a great bar, beautiful pool and fire pit with the most amazing sunset views, Tarangire Simba Lodge gets a big recommendation from us, either as part of a safari booking, or as...

The Tarangire Simba Lodge was our first lodging we stayed at while on actual safari in Tanzania. After a long day of game drives (we saw four out of the big 5!! Lion, leopard, elephant, and water buffalo) we were welcomed by the entire staff at the reception area. They were all so kind and hospitable, and kindly carried all our luggage to our room.

Our room was immaculate and had gorgeous, unobstructed views of nature. The mosquito nets had great coverage (something I’ve found some places do not have. We didn’t have an issue anywhere with mosquitos, but the nets gave me good peace of mind). The bed was very comfortable, as were all the seating options. We had no issues charging our phones, and the power restrictions due to the property being completely solar powered (no hair dryers, charge laptops at reception) did not bother us one bit. We had plenty of warm water for our showers.

The lodge is located just outside of Tarangire National Park, so there are tons of animals roaming around nearby. In fact - you’re not allowed to walk around alone at night because of that! The staff are very attentive and caring and make it very easy to get their attention/ assistance. A water buck darted across the walking path when I was on my way back to the room from dinner and made it clear why that was so important! There were also many impala grazing just outside our room most of the time we were there.

The food was excellent - the best potato leek soup I’ve ever had - and a wide selection of options at the dinner buffet. My husband’s and my favorites were the pork ribs. Breakfast was also great.

There is a beautiful pool that we didn’t have a chance to take advantage of. There is apparently an elephant with tusks that reach the ground that visits the pool for water during the dry season!

Tarangire Simba Lodge had top notch service and an unbeatable location just outside what was probably our favorite park...

We stayed here for one night. During our safari journey we stayed st all the Simba Lodge. This lodge has the best wildlife experience. Look at the video and you can see how close you can be to the animals, especially the elephants. They also have a viewing platform. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Power is generated via solar power and we were able to charge our devices. There is WiFi in the main building but not the rooms. I was fine with that. We stayed in Kanga. There are monkeys around and we were warned to keep our doors shut. They provide 2 bottles of 500ml water. They advise not to use the tap water for brushing so we used the Bottled. I liked the food. They were very helpful as we were vegetarian. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast at the lodge and had a packed lunch. This lodge had the worst packed lunch for us but it was more than enough for us. They provide a lot of food. You will not go hungry. For me this is definitely worth a visit.
