Location right on the beach. Views from the beach are simply breathtaking (lakeshore lies on the foothills of incredibly scenic Livingstone Mountains). Matema is a very lively village and we enjoyed spending our evenings there (10 minutes walk from the resort).||||My opinion about our stay at Matema Lakeshore Resort is unfortunately mixed. The place itself is rather well-kept, the lakeshore beach is clean and very scenic. We were negatively surprised by the attitude presented by most of the staff however. During our 3 night stay no one showed up to clean our room even once, no one asked if we need anything (clean towels, toilet paper) - we had to ask for everything ourselves and got a feeling that several staff members were rather annoyed with our requests. Food offered at the resort restaurant is mediocre at best (spending around 6 weeks in different places around Tanzania we had a pretty good comparison - unfavorable for Lakeshore's kitchen unfortunately). Moreover, being quite gregarious people, we felt a bit uncomfortable with staff passing us by without even saying good morning, hello, not even looking at us - like we were invisible. Seems like they don't care whether their guests feel welcome. I think Matema Lakeshore Resort has an immense touristic potential, there is much room for...
Read moreWe stayed for 3 nights in Matema and had a really good time! Toni from Matema Authentic Adventures (0782969105) was very helpful in organising activities in and around Matema. We particularly liked an evening stroll to the swamps to see hippos and birds, and the visit to Ikombe, the pottery village. Also Toni helped us in getting some items made by a tailor in town. ||The road to Matema has been finished by now, so it's a smooth ride from Mbeya with tarmac all the way. ||We stayed at Matema Lake Shore Resort which is a nice place. It gets busy on weekends, but is very quiet on weekdays. The best was the beach which was very clean at the resort. The big waves, especially in the afternoons, were so much fun to swim in! Also the massage offered right at the beach (ask at reception) was really nice. Besides some issues with water in one of our rooms, they were comfortable enough and had nice views. Staff was very nice and friendly, but waiting times for food were indeed long. However, their pizza was really good! Just make sure to order early enough :) Or you take a stroll into the "centre" of Matema where you can also find simple...
Read moreWe had been searching for the right place to stay for just 10 minutes before we came across this place and immediately new we wanted to stay there. It was much cleaner and quieter compared to the neighbouring lodges and thats exactly what we were looking for. The manager Joseph is an extremely humble and helpful man. We had a great time there and even made a new friend Moyo, who was like oir guide as well and took us on a fisherman boat ride to the caves for a fair price. The food service is quite slow so we mostly ate outside at the local areas. The breakfast selection could also use a bit of improvement as we had he same breakfast everyday we were there. The cinamon rolls and home made jam were amazing however. Its also a photographers dream. We were able to see the milky way right above us and even ligntning in the distance. All in all I highly recommend this place and the little faults do not stop me from giving it a five star. By the way, it is in Matema, Tanzania...
