We had a nice stay at Vuma Hills.|The room was clean and spacious, the food was great, also the lunch boxes.|Staff was friendly. ||Advice to the staff: a welcome at the parkingplace when you arrive or when you come back from a game drive with a refreshing towel would be great. Saying goodbye from the parking place when you leave would also be nice and it makes the experience more personal. This is quite common in other lodges. Here you walk to the restaurant and will be greeted by the staff there.||Location is on top of a hill and from the restaurant you have a wonderful view. From our tent we mostly saw trees.|Be careful: in wet conditions the steep paths in the camp are very slippery because of algae. We chose to walk next to the paved path.|We visited in May and it was still rain season, it was rather humid in the area. In the tent the sheets and towels were a bit damp.||When we arrived there was no room to stay for our driver-guide. That was really not OK, we booked months ahead and now he had to go back to Mikumi (1 hour drive) for the first night. The camp was undergoing renovations and most driver-guide sleeping places were used for the workmen and storing building materials. Luckily a place was found for him for the 2nd and 3rd night after we spoke to the manager and reservation office.||There is a nice little swimming pool, great to have a dip after a warm...
Read moreHomely comfort in the middle of dense forest of Mikumi National Park. Very humble and welcoming staff, great tent rooms. The place runs on generator so the power supply is limited (4 hours morning, 3 hours during lunch and 4 hours at night). We did not have any problem with that, after all you go to such places to be with yourself and not for electricity.. Fixed food menu with limited offerings however, they were flexible with my kids who eat only chicken and no other meat. Food that was offered was good. They serve alcohol as well however, I found it a bit expensce! Then I think at least you are getting the luxury of being served alcohol in the middle of no where... There is no air-conditioning however, we slept easy at night even though we went at peak summer. Nights there in the jungle are very cool. Be careful of bugs and flies (you are in jungle afterall), and best option is to keep the tent net close at all times that will keep the unwanted guests out only. If this was not enough then you also have a small swimming pool there to take a dip in fresh water. But again, be careful of crawling bugs or small spiders who get easily attracted to water and like to take a dip in water with you... Overall, a fabulous choice to stay with amazing staff and in good comfort amidst dense forest and raw...
Read moreMy wife and I booked a two centre trip directly with Foxes for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. ||From the initial booking through Jane, meet and greet at Dar airport , Safari Air Link flights and 3 nights at Vuma and Ruaha, the food , the camps and the game sightings the whole experience was way beyond our expectations.||A warm welcome at Vuma from Paolo , Peta and especially from our driver Andrew and the amazing guide Zachary.||Even in the first afternoon we saw lions and cubs , elephants and babies at very close range. Hippos , Giraffes, more elephants, more lions including watching a lioness about 20 foot away roaring to attract her pride. ||The food both at the camp and when eating out in the bush was plentiful , varied and tasty. As a coeliac my wife is often left with limited choice but a big credit to the kitchen staff at Foxes who made sure she had more or less the same options as everyone else. This even included a surprise gluten free anniversary cake delivered by the staff and Maasai with traditional song and dance. The bushbaby also seemed to enjoy the piece he stole from one of tables. ||A unforgettable holiday with many memories . We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Foxes and hope to return...
