We had a fantastic visit to Pemba Eco Lodge. We visited as 3 friends and were the only guests staying at the time. Omar (the assistant manager) looked after us from the moment we arrived, leaving flasks of tea for us upon waking in the morning, organising any trips or activities we needed and being extremely friendly and professional throughout. The location is absolutely breathtaking and is one of the most naturally gorgeous places I have ever seen, with crisp white beaches and amazingly blue sea. The place really is paradise. The lodge itself is well stocked, with comfy beds and a good working shower. The only potential downside are the eco toilets and slightly dim lighting, but this is to be expected based on the rural location of the lodges and eco nature. The food was fantastic throughout, and was fresh and flavoursome at every meal. We would recommend it as a must visit to anyone visiting Tanzania and Zanzibar. The manager Masoud was also readily available and extremely helpful and accommodating in resolving any queries during the stay. Thank you to Omar, Masoud and the team for our amazing stay!

Pemba lodge is hidden away from the rest of the world. There are no frills here which is why it is an eco lodge. Everything is basic but clean and comfortable. Just what you need if you want to get away from the busy modern world. Depending on the tide, you may have to walk for 15min through a rough terrain. There is only solar electricity so you can only charge your phone's in the restaurant. The rooms are self contained but with compost toilets. Bring reef shoes to walk on the reef else you will have sore feet! Overall great place and would definitely recommend it but guests should know it's an Eco Lodge but very comfortable! If you need your luxuries then this place is not for you.

Pemba Lodge is the only accomodation on this large white sandy beach (very clean and natural, swimming only possible at high tide). Its the perfect quite place to relax. The rooms in the cabins are large and comfortable and have their own balcony. The restaurant offers nice local food. We also enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling - some of the activities offered. The staff was very friendly. As I enjoyed the time very much I prolonged my stay by another 5 days :-)

Serene and quiet. Stunning location with the white sand beach right outside your front door. The staff were always incredibly helpful and friendly and happy to respond to any requests we had.

The lodge itself and food could be improved upon. Even though it is an isolated lodge, I was surprised we didn’t receive rice once at lunch or dinner time. There was also unfortunately only fruit at one breakfast out of three. The meal portions were also incredibly large and most of the time we found ourselves having to waste or share the food - perhaps would be better to provide smaller portions or portion options. We had mostly the same ingredients and it also would’ve been nice for them to be prepared in slightly different ways for a bit more variety. Lastly, the dining area could do with some comfy pillows on the chairs and we could be provided with napkins at every meal - we only received napkins once. Fresh coconuts aren’t a given and are provided on request.

The rooms are very spacious but at the same time feel empty. Basic improvements they could make: a rope washing line provided for easy drying of wet clothes, eco friendly hand washing soap + hooks in the bathroom to hang towels/clothes, a trash bin could also be provided as we didn’t know where to put our rubbish. This is a personal preference but the pillows were pretty puffy and flatter/softer pillows are preferred but they were able to provide that on request. The room that I was in did not have a rod or curtain on the main window - this also should be provided.

It was a pleasant stay nonetheless and the staff were...

I stayed here recently with my family it was simply an okay experience. Initially when booking our stay I was asking the resrvations agent who I was speaking with questions about how to get from the lodge to the main island (as we had planned to do some driving around) and the details we were given by the reservations agents before hand was completely different than when we got there and we were askig the same questions. It made for planning our stay a difficult as we weren't given the right information. The cabin that we stayed in had a beautiful view of the beach. However the cabin itself required alot of maintenance which it was very clearly lacking. The sheets in our room had stains on them as well... Lastly, I personally felt that there could be alot more improvement on the food. I understand that the location is isoalted and that bringing products is not easy, but the lodge can simply expand their many slightly by adding more vegetable options on the menu. Various types of local beans and and greens can be bought from the village to make local dishes to provide variety for guests.

I gave two stars as the beach it absolutely stunning and the staff were very nice. This lodge has potentially to be so much more, yet has a long way...
