Read moreFirstly, I would like to say that I strongly concur with all of the positive comments made by the most recent three reviewers. Have a look at those too!||||I travelled with my family of four from Dar es Salaam where we live. We stayed for three nights. Before travelling, however, Jimbiza were the best and most responsive of TWELVE tour companies or lodges that we wrote to requesting for safari quotes. The price was one of the most competitive, but the communication was easily the best. Even before we went, Jimbiza was a winner.||||We were picked up from our home, taken to Jimbiza, then dropped back home at the end of the trip. We had a few slight issues, but these were sorted out quickly and perfectly by the Jimbiza team. They are clearly very conscious of taking good care of their clients, and we felt like if we had any concern, they would do their best to fix it.||||Adding to what others have said, here are some personal reflections.||||Firstly, we have to confirm that the friendliness and helpfulness of the teams both in Dar and at Jimbiza were outstanding. We were made to feel incredibly welcome, from start to finish.||||This is a mid-range safari camp, so do not expect 5-star luxury. However, Jimbiza still exceeded our expectations. Lovely tent, well decorated, super clean, spacious. Excellent food with packed lunch for safari days. Pool, which our two children used and really enjoyed after a long day's driving. The location is wonderful, with views out over the Rufiji River, and set in riverine forest (check out the colobus and blue monkeys as well as yellow baboons right in the camp!). ||||One concern we had before going was about sleep in the tents in December (quite hot at night as it's the start of the rains). Unlike most other accommodation in and around Selous, Jimbiza has mains electricity. It also has solar-powered fans in rooms and generator back-up. All in all, it was perfect - fans worked all night, and there was always more than enough electricity to charge phones and camera batteries. p.s. My Vodacom Tanzania phone's 4G was also working (big surprise), so I was also able to send pictures back to other family members by WhatsApp).||||Our main reason for travelling to the Selous was to see the wildlife. Jimbiza has open-sided landrovers, one of which we used on each of the two safari days. If you have not been in one of these, well, it's worth going just for that! Seats are elevated and driving through the bush with panoramic views all around is something truly special. We were driven by Zuberi, and how wonderful that was. Always smiling, and with his many years of experience, he showed us all that we had hoped to see.||||African wild dogs were top of our list of the animals to see, and we were able to see a group of ten resting in the afternoon heat on our second day. We also saw: lions (both days), hyenas, countless giraffe and impala, wildebeest, buffalo, ichneumon's mongoose, elephant, warthog, bushbuck, hippo, crocodile and waterbuck, as well as the monkeys and baboons mentioned previously. One of the best moments of the trip was provided by Zuberi. We told him we wanted to see male kudu (as they have spectacular spiral horns). He took us to locations where a particular tree was growing, which he said is the preferred food of kudu. Incredibly, after about 15 minutes we came across a group of three glorious male kudu. I have done safari in 15 parks over 30 years, but this was one of the greatest triumphs of tracking I can remember. Thanks, Zuberi!||||Selous is a wildlife gem, and you will certainly have a wonderful time wherever you stay. However, if we went again, we would DEFINITELY stay at Jimbiza. Top class hospitality combined with best-in-class value for money. Just go there and see for yourself.||||Thanks to Meenaz, Shama, Shana, Arif, Susan, Zuberi and the wonderful waiter from Mbeya who made our short visit to Jimbiza and the Selous a big...
Just spent 4 nights at Jimbiza; was treated as family like the wonderful staff and spent hours gazing at the magnificent open view as the camp sits on river bank right where the river turns. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.||||The camp has a low-key and relaxed vibe. baboons visit in morning and bush baby at night. Beeeaters, who are noisy colorful little birds rather like parrot, make neat rows of hole on one part of the river bank wall for their homes. Hippos in the river sometimes passby and make their presence known with loud grunting. I would be happy to spend entire quiet days here reading a book, sip cold beer and watch the river. A peaceful bush version of beach holiday.||||Rooms are clean and comfortable. Food was good and the fresh bread shaped into different animals each day was a delight. The real star are the staff who are around to help in every way, and happy to talk about local animals and culture. On my last day of stay there there was a large group of guests, the local African band came and the entire staff danced to drum beat. Eventually all the guests join too. Kids were running around and everyone was laughing. It was a beautiful way to experience how locals live. ||||The camp can arrange travel and safari in the game reserve with very competitive price compared to the safari companies that are based in Salaam - a good option I plan to explore next time. There are boat tours and all day game drives. Don't miss the morning safari done by a local bushman: it's alternatively comical and spiritual as he demonstrates traditional ways to hunt, find bush food and medicine, and speak to a 700 year old baobo tree. Best one man show I have seen in...
Read moreJust do it, you will not regret. We recommend you choose this camp as you will get the most incredible view over the river and a top class service. ||We lived in a big river tent - and received a top class service from the lovely manager Susan and her team. Fantastic stay in the forest among baboons. and the sound from hippos in the river. The cook was also very creative ( bread shaped as a crocodile, buffalo, elephant - very fun for the kids) - food was so tasty and beautifully served.||The game drive was different from what we experienced some years ago in the Northern territory. However, it felt more intense as the animals are not used to humans to the same extent- It made the search looking them up more challenging and intense. However, we had a very experienced driver - 30 years of experience - so we found many animals - elephants, lions, kudu, antilopes, crocodiles, hippos, hyene, girafs, buffalo etc. The ecosystem and scenery by the river, forest.also made this trip very unique - very interesting landscape. The river safari was also very beautiful - at sunset and at sunrise in a very comftable river boat. ||Just AMAZING. We like it when we see, feel, and get a taste of the real Africa. There are many other camps in same area - and it is our impression this one has the best location ad...
