As other reviews have noted, it's no mean feat to reach this place well off the beaten track for most tourists on the beautiful mainland Tanzanian coast. For me, it involved a near 10 hour journey by public bus from Bagamoyo on 'roads' which certainly left me feeling like I had had a good African massage! A short motorcycle trip from an isolated village named Mwera brought me to the Emayani Beach Lodge.||I was warmly greeted on arrival to the Lodge with a refreshing drink of coconut juice and I immediately knew that I had arrived in a special place. I was shown to my 'banda' which was large and atmospheric, but with a cozy net-covered bed for keeping out any mosquitoes or other insects. It was a nice quarters to retreat to after a long day by the beach or other activity.||The meals are served in the restaurant within the main open Lodge building which is very large and wonderfully atmospheric. I was on half-board and the dinners, sometimes buffet style, were always delicious. Breakfasts were similarly excellent and they also served snacks for lunch. There is a bar in the same building where you could sit after dinner and enjoy a cocktail by the relaxing sound of the ocean waves.||Although very isolated from any large settlement, there is certainly plenty to do here to keep one occupied during their stay. I had arranged through the Lodge manager, John, to do two activities - one being a boat cruise up the nearby Pangani river which also included an organised town walk, and the second being a snorkelling trip to Maziwi island - a small but pristine island about 10km offshore made of wonderfully soft sand with a lot of interesting coral and fish to see in the warm waters of the surrounding Indian Ocean. Both of these were great and very well organised by John in conjunction with the partner diving school or cruise company.||While on other days, I could simply relax and bathe by the beach which is directly opposite the Lodge, or swim in the pool. The beach view is superb - at low tide you can walk out far like in a lagoon of warm Indian Ocean water, and at high tide the sea waves come right up near the Lodge which is ideal for bathing in.||The staff at the Emayani Beach Lodge were all fantastic and friendly - John, the manager, was very helpful in things like advising or organising transport to and from the Lodge, as well as with any activities like the group snorkelling trip. Wema and the team of waiters were all really nice and friendly and which made the stay a truly memorable experience for me.||If you are looking for an excellent beach resort in Tanzania, consider the mainland and this place as you can be sure that the Emayani Beach Lodge will provide an amazing, and certainly unique, experience of wonderful beach (with lots of crabs!!), sea and truly great staff!||It's far away from the bustle of everyday life, far from any crowds, it's certainly not easy to get to, but the rewards of finding such a gem of a resort are well...
Read moreI just returned from four nights in Paradise: Emayani Beach Lodge. I cannot say enough good things about this place, and I would go back in a heartbeat! The staff are truly wonderful, brining Tanzania’s Karibu (welcome!) spirit to life in everything they do. Several members of my group had been here before, some many times. The rooms are spacious and lovely, as is the open-air lodge ( everything is open-air), which has wi-fi. This is a perfect place to relax and renew. We read, swam in the pool ( cooler than the Indian Ocean a few steps away,) and enjoyed each others’ company). We also had a fabulous day snorkeling arranged by the dive shop just down the beach. And I had an excellent massage from Wema, who is on the Emayani staff.|The food was excellent every day, ranging from curries to Eggs Benedict to wood-fired pizza, with lots of fresh fruit and tropical juices.|We left very early on the last morning, and the staff provided excellent boxed lunches with sandwiches, samosas, fruit, and more, all packed without using a shred of plastic. Bravo!|Thank you, Emayani Beach Lodge. I hope to see...
Read moreThere are not enough words to describe how amazing Pangani and Emayani Beach Lodge is. This is truly a hidden gem, away from the hectic tourism buzz at Zanzibar. Emayani Beach Lodge exceeded all our expectations; located directly at the beach where we seldom saw other people than some local fishermen, a pool by the beach side much appreciated especially by the kids, a state of the art dining and lounge area and fantastic bandas all with a porch and private sun beds and parasol by the seaside.||In addition to this the staff is very friendly, helpful and flexible, making our stay at Emayani one of our most amazing experiences ever. ||Tanzania is a wonderful country with kind, friendly and very service minded people. I would really recommend everybody that has the chance to go and experience Tanzania, and combine safari with a stay at Emayani Beach Lodge in Pangani. If you, like us, are looking for a more “off the beaten track” experience this is the place, skip Zanzibar. I can promise you will have the best time ever with all expectations...
