The setting of this lodge is almost perfect for a secluded getaway. We were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves so it made the experience almost royal in a way. The safari tents are scattered in a forest-like valley that winds down to the beach. The tents have been given quite abit of attention to detail. A mini library has been included in every tent. Kerosene lamps are used to light the paths at night. Every sitting area from the reception, the poolside and the sitting area right at the edge of the cliff have been made very comfortable and colourful as well. Their are signs of decay however. The pool needs a new paint job. Some of the tents and furniture have faded canvas. The Tanga stone pathways need to be fixed and some of the wooden steps were loose which could be dangerous. The management is more than capable of maintaining this beautiful lodge. I guess difficult times right now have prevented them from incurring any extra costs to keep the lodge open. |But it has great potential to become one of Pangani's best kept secrets! The staff were more than welcoming. We were treated like family. The owner/manager was involved in running the lodge which always nice to see. He always available for a game of pool as well! |I hope hotels and lodges like these can survive and stay open. We would love to go even twice a year but unfortunately its not within our budget for that. I would like to make a humble request that prices for locals and foreign tourists be kept different so that locals can get to travel and see their own country at affordable prices....
Read moreThis place is really different from all the over places I've been to until now! The "tents" are half tents half hard built so it feels like being in a little house. All the tents are spread across a massive greeny garden with trees and plants everywhere! There are pathways leading to every tent dispatched in the garden. And a path bringing you to the pool and the pool bar. From there you can enjoy an overlooking view of the ocean from the top of a cliff! There's a last path bringing you down to the ocean. The ocean can be heard at night from your tent and really comforts your sleep! The food is absolutely delicious! From breakfast to dinner it is amazing. You compose you breakfast in the morning from a list of options and it clearly is of European standards! I'll leave it up to you to discover the meals 😉 the staff is one of the most welcoming and pro I've met. They are very welcoming, always there to help and answer your questions, fluent in English and always have a huge smile on their face 😁 Nic, the owner is a very interesting person, we had great talks about various subjects and is very knowledgeable. Thank you for these amazing weeks I spent...
Read moreWe chose to head to Pangani for 2 nights as a short trip away from Dar. The trip was combined with a day trip into Saadani National Park on the drive up. We were thrilled to spend the morning with zebra, giraffe and waterbuck - the gates to the park open at 6 am and it’s worth leaving Dar at 4-4:30 am to get there early! The tented lodge was a superb getaway for a couple - sleeping in the tents amongst trees was peaceful - very cosy - the food was very nice and the staff attentive. The bay on which the hotel is situated is a lovely secluded stretch, we had the beach to ourselves for our afternoon swim (in contrast to the beaches on Zanzibar). Recommend walking along the beach at low tide (you can walk to Pangani township, which is only a few kilometres away), or borrowing a bike from the lodge. Nic was a fantastic host, providing us with useful driving instructions for the national park, tips on what to see in town, and great company at dinner. Get to Pangani for your...
