The Mae Rim mountain area is spoilt with overtourism. The local infrastructure was never meant to cater such an amount of guest, with every second home offering several rooms or huts for tourists. Mon Lom Nao Homestay is one of such places that seems to have been built in the last years to profit from the ever increasing stream of tourists that are traveling to northern Thailand. To approach this homestay you have to drive for about 10 min on steep single track roads only to arrive at a narrow dead-end car park surrounded by huts for tourists accomodation. The homestay tries to provide instagramable accomodation in separate huts for tourists. The photos look nicer and fancier than reality. The place is crowded with such huts (as seem the other homestays in the village). The huts were ok, but not very convenient. There is only rain-covered outdoor seating available. The outdoor chairs were ok, but not very comfortable to spend a long time there. Since we had quite cold nights in early January, it was not very comfortable to spend our evening outside. The only indoor alternative is the bed, which is also not comfortable. Bed linen were really cheap synthetics, cushion and mattress were very hard. Also breakfast was below our expectations: Some rice soup, toast and egg and some water melon and instant coffee. It was ok, but not more than that. We had also dinner (bbq & hotpot: small size for 490 BHT for 2), which was the best feature of our stay there. Quality was good, but the price was at the higher end for what we got.
An absolute no-go was that while cleaning our hut, the hosts took away one can of Singha beer that I had brought with me. Also they did not stock up toiletries.
To sum things up: Value for money is not good at this homestay. For the same price (about 50 USD/EUR), you will find really nice hotel rooms with extraordinary breakfast in Chiang Mai district. We left one day early to spend our night at such a place and did not regret...

Room & service - I stayed in Baan 1, it's at the same level as the common dining area where breakfast is served there. Clean room, even the bedsheet smells sweet and good. There's bubble bath powder provided where you can shower in the outdoor bathtub while enjoying the magnificent mountain top view. You can request for room keys to lock your door when you head out for the day. They even tidy your room daily. Staying on the mountains however do expect flying insects, nonetheless, they're harmless. The owner of the homestay is easily contactable via WhatsApp, and is very responsive even at late night. Due to the location being far away, with narrow and steep roads, it's not easy to get around via Grab. However, you may seek help from the owner to book a car for you, the drivers are experienced and familiar with the homestay, they're nice and friendly too. Drive out to the city takes about 1hr - 1.5hr depending on traffic.
Food - You can order mookata and choose to eat in your room, it has generous food portions, but the soup was a bit salty. They even sell beer. :D they serve the same yummy breakfast menu daily, however they've a food menu where you can order what you want at a cost.
Weather was still hot, but windy and a little cooling at night. Owner and her family are friendly, warm and welcoming. She also recommended to come visit during rainy season, as the skies would be clearer, perhaps could get nice sunrise / sunset views then. Would try the other rooms if I ever come to Chiang Mai again. Thank you Mon Lom for the...
Read moreA place far far away from town and also Mon Jam. I was planning to stay 1 night in Mon Jam actually, however I didn’t noticed the homestay is another mountain from Mon Jam (called Pong Yaeng) which was Trip.com suggested to me when I search for hotels of Mon Jam. I booked it for family trip, we called the Grab to send us to there so that we can check in and drop the bags first. I must to say, the way to get to the homestay was quite thrilling cause the last section of the way were rugged mountain road, luckily the driver was expertly to send us there safely. After we settled down and want to go out to Mon Jam for sightseeing, there were no car to pick us up through Grab cause we were too far away from town. Although the host had help us to ask for the ride, there was no reply too. Even if yes, it cost around 400-500 THB which was very expensive tho. So we were stuck in the homestay to having the peace and silence. Luckily we can still order food from the host when we feeling hungry, having the meal with the mountain view and BBQ+hotpot for dinner were also some good experiences here.Actually the place was quite good and the host was very nice, I’m sure there would be a good place to stay if you are not concerned about the location and looking for some peaceful stay. But I would strongly recommend you to rent a car, motorbike or even a driver, just in case you want to go somewhere else for sightseeing. Or you can go to play or sightseeing before going to the homestay, it’s...
