It's right on the river, about half an hour from town if you have a car as did. It has four levels of accommodation. We stayed in a basic room, and took a look at other more expensive quarters, which include whole fenced-off villas. The room was nice, if a bit odd. There is an extra bed, half folded up, in the corner, topped by bolsters. I tried to sit on it thinking it was a chair. It's definitely not. The whole resort is quiet and pleasant. The pool is chlorine treated and small and above-ground. The promised organic garden and zoo are neglected. The garden needs care, and the goats are confined in a much-too-small cage. The two ponies are tethered to trees. I couldn't find the "albino buffalo." The outdoor ashtrays were full and not emptied during our stay. The restaurant is above average but again, neglected. Food in the buffet line was cold, apparently because no one thought to turn on the burners. They did turn them on when we pointed it out, but the food had not warmed enough by the the time we had to leave. The rooms were superficially cleaned, but it was clear that no serious cleaning had been done for a long time. There was heavy dark mildew on the curtains, and bathroom surfaces had not had significant attention for an extended period (see photos). There was no guide to amenities or features in the room or at the front desk. We discovered too late, and by accident that bicycles were provided. All in all it was a pleasant stay, but any claims to four star status should wait until maintenance...

My wife and I have enjoyed stayed at this resort a couple of times a year for the past several years. Recently we spent a long weekend there. It was still a beautiful place with well maintained grounds and nice places to walk. The staff in the restaurant and the gardeners and housekeepers remain as friendly as ever. But overall the place seems to be on a downhill slide. My emails to the manager trying to book a room were only sporadically answered and when we called reservations to check they could find no record of them. The front desk staff sometimes display a poor attitude in dealing with guests (a friend who has also stayed at the Wishing Tree several times told me she will never return after an unpleasant encounter with the reception staff). The rooms are showing signs of wear and tear. One of the air conditioners in our villa was so noisy we couldn't use it. The bathroom door kept sticking and was difficult to close fully. The bath towels are old and no longer soft. The razors are poor quality and provide a painful shave. All minor issues that would not bother us at a local business hotel but not really acceptable at a high end resort like the Wishing Tree aspires to be. We will probably continue to return to the Wishing Tree because it is still the nicest place to stay near Khon Kaen but we are sorry that it is slipping in this way. We hope the management will wake up and put...

I have stayed here regularly over the past year and I'm sad to see the standards slipping. With it's rural location and pretty grounds it should be so much better. On my last stay the check in was a little haphazard, with a staff member leaving us waiting outside the room while she took the buggy back to reception after finding that it had not been made up. There was no tea bags provided in the room for the morning tea and the breakfast options have changed from a full buffet with real filter coffee to a limited choice of food and a self service vending machine dispensing bitter instant coffee.....not acceptable for this level of accommodation. With the excellent 5 star Avani Hotel in the city now offering accommodation at a similar price level on some booking sites and with it's first class facilities, faultless service and an impressive international breakfast buffet it is now hard to justify the 30 minutes drive to this isolated location. Sadly it is unlikely that I will be returning to The Wishing Tree anytime soon

Great place located outside of crazy Khon Kaen by about 15 minutes. However, once off the main road (on which the Khon Kaen Brewery is located) the small roads to get to the resort through the village are just horrible... nobody at the local official level cares and the holes are now craters. Be careful! However, once you finally get to the resort, you will find a beautifully maintained resort with nice rooms, lovely grounds, and great people! I recommend the villa as you have a choice of river or pond view. The bed is a but hard for me but overall the rooms are large and you have a large balcony from which to enjoy the sunrise or sunset view. We always get the river view villa. The lunch and dinner are great aand the pizza is Great! Pork chops are very good as well. As for breakfast, best to arrive early as the selections are surprisingly few.. Overall, we always stay here and not downtown, especially during Song Kran! Enjoy!

Great resort in Khon Kaen located with about 15 - 30 minutes outside of town , it still new and clean. It is set in a peaceful environment. The resort is well maintained with nice rooms, great river view, lovely grounds and nice and polite staffs. The rooms are just as it was shown in the photographs!. The resort is mix and match between the modern and Thai Eastern style. Please note that the way to the resort is quite horrible, it is the local road with many holes and craters. Staff: They are polite and having a good service mind. Price: Quite reasonable especially with a discount from the trip website e.g. agoda, traveloka.
