A wonderful five night stay with Tong and his wife, we really felt at home.
My partner and I, on our backpackers budget, booked the 'hostel room' for five nights. In reality, it more like a small and basic double room. It has a mosquito net, bedside table and fan. The fan was enough to keep us cool at night time.
There are three of these basic rooms, which I booked direct via WhatsApp, and they're on the floor above their house, with a great view out to sea, and a good sunset too! We were lucky and were the only guests in these rooms so had the whole floor to ourselves, which felt like our own living space.
As the name suggests, the view from the accomodation and particularly the restaurant area is absolutely brilliant, with an unobstructed view of the sunset across the local, quiet, bay.
There is a pontoon for easy access into the water, which rises and falls with the tide. You can also sit on the pontoon and enjoy a beer if you like.
I also did some great fishing from the rocks nearby and Tong and his wife offered to cook any catches I made, for free! I was lucky and caught a small snapper which they cooked brilliantly.
The food at the restaurant is good. Some dishes are better than others and some are quite pricey. Here are the ones I'd recommend - fried rice, pad see ew, tofu in sweet spicy sauce.
There are motorbikes for rent at the usual price of 250THB, making for easy access into the village.
When we left, Tong also kindly offered to give us a lift to the Koh Jum pier, where we caught the boat to Koh Lanta, which Tong also booked for us.
I also loved that Tong had free water refils.
Free to use Kayaks too!
A few things to bare in mind:
If staying in the budget rooms, bring ear plugs for sleeping - the lovely dogs can be very noisy in the morning as can the insects!
The wildlife comes and goes as it pleases - expect hermit crabs, flying insects of all kinds, flying lizards (!), monkies and even fireflies!
The swimming at high tide is very good. At low tide it is not good at all and it's rather rocky.
There are free to use snorkels for rent, which is a lovely touch, but the snorkeling isn't as good as on other islands - this island is much better enjoyed from the land rather than the water.
We absolutely loved it here and would definitely come again. If you like beauty, peace and quiet and not a full moon party for many miles around then this is the...
Read moreNice view but unreasonable price||Rock View Terrace was located at great location. Having a great astonish and unique rock view, I really enjoy and love rock scenario there. at morning, I even fall asleep at the white terrace while listen to the wave's sound, mind sea breeze and cicada. and if you'd like the beach, there're quite private beach step aways.||But there're much unlike things than i like. firstly i think the price wasn't reasonable. that night i stay at hostel room 1 and it's cost 600THB. the room was on second floor, bamboo wall, sharing bathroom (with another 2 rooms upstair and tents) and nothing in the room unless 1 bed, 1 pillow, 1 fan and 1 little table. there're no even a bin or drinking water. and in case that i'm solo traveller, the room mention for 2 pax, but i got only 1 pillow, may i not satisfy on this point? i think it's un-service mind and un-ready for service thinking way of the owner.||Secondly, down stair of my room is restaurant and seem to be owner rest area. so it's noisy till late night. as i assumed, nature if customers that acquire hut middle forest would like the calm? shall they MUST acknowledge this point?||Thirdly, as the place fronted to west direction. so i have nowhere to stay since afternoon. all area cover with sunlight. Really uncomfortable, not relax anymore.||and lastly, in the morning i found many rashes at my leg. Many bugs at night. if they prepare mosquito net and i'm still rashes, i will not complain about this, but they're not.||Propose of this post is to hope improvement from Rock View Terrace. you have a great place, great material on your hand. please don't devastated it by bad management and underestimate...
Read moreI had very basic expectations for this place – cleanliness, quiet surroundings, and a nice view. Unfortunately, the reality was quite different.
The room and facilities are extremely worn out, with broken floors in several places. The cleanliness was a major issue, as the room was full of ants. Additionally, there is no sound insulation, making it impossible to get a good night’s sleep due to barking dogs and noisy neighbors, especially with children.
The only redeeming factor is the nice view outside, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1. However, the service was disappointing; within the first five minutes of our stay, the balcony doors were broken, and when I asked the owner to fix them, I was met with a simple “no.”
We paid €40 per night, but in my opinion, the fair value should be no more than €10. I hope this honest review helps future travelers avoid disappointment. After spending over a week in Thailand, this has been my most disappointing...
