Hapla Beach Cottage was an unfortunate choice for our trip to Thailand. We tried to get into contact with the owner for several weeks to get more information about our stay. They had failed to mentioned that the last ferry was leaving at 5:30 PM so we nearly missed it. Moreover, the area is known to have many sandflies which are mean stinging bugs. Hard to do anything about it but that meant you could not really do much on the beach during sunset or sunrise. The experience started off wrong due to the above mentioned two factors. On our second day we experienced something awful. I was travelling with my girlfriend and her family. Her aunt went to bed early and a local Thai man entered her room. The locks on the bungalows hardly worked and she had her windows open due to the heat (rooms did not have airconditioning). He entered the room and started touching her inappropriately, molesting her. She is a tall Dutch woman so managed to get him out of the bungalow. We told the owners and told them three times to contact the police. They did not do this although they claimed that they would. This resulted in a heated debate. The next day we received our final bill, which was supposed to come at the end of the stay. They were likely afraid we would not pay for the accommodation. That day we went diving which was one of the reasons why we were in the area. That evening we spoke with the owner and she said she did not believe our story as we did not have evidence. Obviously impossible to get evidence during such an incident. Moreover, they never asked what the guy looked like, we have the feeling that they knew who did it. They said they were surprised that we still went diving but we spend a lot of money to get this experience from across the world. We agreed on that they would split the bill in half and offer us "free" food. We did receive food from them, however the day after they did not agree to the half bill anymore. As they noticed that we had to leave in a hurry and used this against us.||||If you are a single woman travelling, we do NOT recommend going here. We did not feel safe for several nights. We want to avoid a situation like this happens again, so you may want to reconsider choosing this place. Unprofessional owner to deal with a serious situation and brush it off as if it's not a big deal. We spoke with the tourist police and asked a local we met to report something to the local police. I guess this review is the only other thing we can do...

Read moreIf you want a quiet, safe holiday in a tropical paradise, this is the place for you.||The husband and wife team Nong and Sai run a small boutique resort that is in sympathy with island life and nature.||The location is right on a white sand beach that stretches for 10 km in each direction. The 9 thatched bungalows sit in a garden created in a coconut plantation.||The owners' artistic flair is obvious. Careful planting and little touches everywhere ensure that the view is beautiful from any angle.||Some reviews have mentioned flies or mosquitoes. They of course exist: This is a beachside resort in a natural environment. 5* resorts have them too.||The bungalows are pretty. They have the basics for living comfortably. There is no TV. The hosts deliberately chose not to offer wifi as their hope is that guest will lift their heads from phones and instead enjoy the surroundings and friendship on offer.||The food is great. Sai cooks everything using fresh ingredients. The curry pastes are ground and mixed from fresh herbs. They even make the coconut milk and cream themselves. Nothing comes from a jar or tin. Sai worked in the UK and continued to train her staff in safe food handling and organises the kitchen accordingly. You might find dishes 20-40 baht cheaper elsewhwere. You will not find anything so good. In 22 years of travelling through Thailand, this is best I have tasted and the view is worth a price five times that.||Nong collects guests from Kho Kho Khao pier in his vintage songtheaw. He took us on a great tour and he shared his favourite places with us and introduced us to his friends.||In short, go now before the new bridge is built. Experience a warm and generous stay. Relax and make the most of this beautiful and natural place. Enjoy the kind and sharing attitudes of your hosts.||I agree with other reviewers: It's like staying...
