The campsite itself is very picturesque and i stay here often and have a great time. But there are so many problems and shortcomings that could easily be addressed but staff are so lazy (all levels including management staff) and just dont care.
Monkeys and deer raid tents daily throughout the day for food. There should be signs clearly stating this and somewhere to safely leave bags of food (not everybody arrives by car). I have seen tents completely trampled by deer trying to get in (leave tents open and remove all food and anything which might be mistaken for food).
The water machine that was built and broke after a few months has never been repaired years later. Why build something if you arent going to maintain it?
The shop closes so early around 17.00 so there is nowhere within walking distance to buy food or even water. The shop permanently leaves a sign in the window saying they have gone to the toilet and to wait. An hour of waiting later you will realise they arent...
Read moreOne of the 3 camping sites in Khao Yai National Park. Usually during low season, this site is the only one open. It has bathrooms and toilets and a charging station (free). Tents , mats, blankets are available to rent.
Note:
There's a supposed restaurant and a cafe inside the campground but they close around and there are no available/open shops to buy food inside the park (All shops are closed by 5pm including the ones at the visitor center). So make sure you bring some food if you plan to get there later than 5pm. Shops opens at 7am - 5pm.
Deers and monkeys roam the campground so make sure you keep your things secured. Also, be sure to not leave any trash outside your tents to avoid these animals from eating them.
Lam Ta Khong campsite is a bit far from the Visitor Center, around 14 to 15 minutes drive and about an hour and a half...
Read moreGood central place to explore Kao Yai national park from. Decent tents and other equipment for cheap. Staff isn't exactly firm in the English language, but we were able to manage everything regardless.
Café and breakfast options are also decent.
Beware: Bathrooms only have few western style toilet and flushing toilet paper (need to buy your own at the shop) is forbidden. At least in the men's section they didn't supply a trash can for used toilet paper either, so use the water hose or better get creative 😉
Can't recommend the night safari that's offered there (sign up via telephone call). They only drive you around in a pickup truck at night, trying to spot animals with a strong flashlight, that's it. No trekking at all. Therefore, all we saw was a couple of deer - who are abundant in the park anyways - and a fox...
