High value rooms, available as monthly lettings and hotel style accommodation. Our daughter rents here while at university and we stay occasional weekends in their hotel-style rooms. 400 baht per night (online bookers charge a bit more). Clean modern basic rooms with tiled floor, comfortable 6ft king bed (firm but not a board), aircon, fridge, ample wardrobe, chair + small desk and 32 inch LCD TV. Bedroom is 15 sq.m and bathroom at 4 sq.m is well organised, including separate shower area. Also has an enclosed 'smokers balcony' of 3 sq.m. Aircon, shower and TV work well.
Basic room only offer. No hotel services, no breakfast. No lifts and no ground floor rooms. English language very limited at reception. TV has no English language channels. All above standard for this category of hotel.
Location is on the fringes of town centre in a popular area for modern and hi-value hotels and two nearby (3 minutes walk each) main streets (Chaengsanit and Sukha Uppatham Rds) have restaurants and local bars, mostly Thai. 10 baht songthaews travel through Ubon centre along Chaengsanit. Ubon's taxis are phone-up, cheap, plentiful and reliable but tricky to use without some Thai. My entertainment recommendation would be 'Tawan Daeng' (Isaan-style dance club with showband/cabaret entertainment and food at tables); a 15 minute walk away on the Ring Road Hwy 231). Several student bars along the two roads mentioned with very cheap beer. '20+' (10 min walk) down Chaengsanit has expensive beer, but personable farang-lad-friendly hostesses.
As a Brit expat living in a neighbouring province, I/we stay in Ubon every month and have tried out many hotels. This would be my top recommendation at this lo-end room-only budget price point. Need something more central and nearer the river? Phadaeng Mansion at 500 baht would be my next step-up recommendation.
Update May-19: Wi-fi signal poor to useless this visit (usually ok but not startling; I dropped my review rating to 4 from 5). A small restaurant has now been opened by the owner's family next door (haven't tried it) and delivered food menu now in room, but try my mate's food delivery business, 'Ubon Hero', for a wide choice of falang food.A Pizzeria and Italian food restaurant has recently reopened on Chaengsanit as 'Sapori Italian Restaurant'. Same Italian chef (5 mins walk - opposite large DIY place). Update May-21. 'Sapori' highly recommended for delicious authentic rustic Italian food / pizzas / pasta (by me and...
