I stayed here two nights in December 2014 in order to visit Chenini one day and Matmata the second day. I arrived from Gabes around 1 am and it was a short, safe, and cheap taxi ride from the bus station. During my stay I met all three receptionists, who work 8-hour shifts each, and I cannot tell who among them was more polite, helpful and amicable. I speak French so I was able to obtain all the information I needed, but I am not sure whether they can be as helpful if one speaks only English. I was given a room in the 5th floor overlooking the car parking, thus I cannot tell anything about the noise other reviewers complain about. Me, I rested well both nights, I did not hear any noise coming from the minarets or the street. The breakfast, which is included in the price also seemed enough to me. There were boiled eggs, bread, marmalade, margarine, yogurt, and juice. For dinner there is an excellent restaurant (I do not remember the name) just outside the hotel, if you do not use the main door but the lateral one, then just walk a few steps and there it is, any receptionist at the hotel will be able to tell you, but the restaurant closes relatively early, at 7 pm I think. The cons of the hotel are that, when I was there the lift did not work and as I was in the 5th floor it was tough to carry my luggage. The first night the receptionist helped me as obviously it was not so busy. Then the next day it was repaired; but the morning when I left, it broke again. I first went to the 2nd floor to have breakfast and used the lift. Then when I wanted to go back to my room it did not work! I went to inquire about it to the reception and they confirmed that it had to be repaired again. So I had to go up all the 5 floors and then back with my luggage -tiring. Also, the water from the shower would go out from the bath as the shower needed a repair as well. The room was also a bit cold but sleeping was just fine with the duvets. It is also truth that the rooms are pretty basic but at least they are clean, as well as the bedding and the curtains, the furniture was not old either. The floor and the paint looked also fairly new, at least not old. I did not try using the TV so I cannot comment on that. I had also bought an Ooredoo package with data so I cannot tell whether the wifi at the hotel would have worked regardless. The hotel is also close to the place where the louages leave for Tataouine and Matmata, so for me the location was perfect as when I came back in the early evening and it was already dark it was just a short walk to the hotel. All in all I would stay in this hotel again as it was...
Read moreThis was the most racist, humiliating experience of my life. I’ve visited Tunisia a dozen times, and never have I been treated this way. I arrived at 8pm with my husband and found a man in the reception, we ask about available rooms for the night and he asked us if we had a reservation, we said we didn’t. We have been driving for over 12 hours and he pretends to check availability on the computer then he says that there aren’t any. We thanked him and left… we spent the next hour trying to find a room in Mednin but without luck, some hotels were not suitable ; shared bathrooms, and so on. I have this crazy idea and I pick my phone up and called Al kosour hotel and ask if there were any rooms available but this time in English and not in Arabic. The man on the other end says yes there are single rooms and double room, I ask for the rate and say that I’d be arriving in 10 minutes and he says it’s fine, I gave him my name to reserve a room for us, then to be fair I asked for his name. He said Mabrouk. I get there and he sees us again and I say there is a reservation under the name Nadia And he stares at us in disbelief and says “it was you who was speaking in English!?” I tell yes, he starts saying there aren’t any rooms!!! I told him that it’s a shame for him to be called a Tunisian, I told him that what he did was very racist and inappropriate not to mention inhuman. A pregnant woman and her husband turned down at 8 pm for no reason. He starts saying that “on the phone “he told me that there were no rooms too, I told him that he is lying and that I recorded the whole phone call. What’s is wrong with the world, hiring such individuals! This happened today, 2 hours ago 5th of...
