You would pay hundreds of dollars in other lodges for the views you get from rooms here - but the smaller prices don’t represent a huge compromise in quality. Rooms are well appointed, bright and comfortable with views out to the lake on one side and the pool on the other. ||There is a good menu of Italian influenced food. Food is very, very slow to arrive even by more relaxed Ugandan standards. Best to order well in advance and go about your day while you wait. When it does come, food is very good! ||I travelled with my 1 year old daughter and was welcomed and looked after - but it’s perhaps not somewhere I’d recommend for those with toddlers as there isn’t anywhere for them to run around that is free from steep drops down to the lake (or next to the pool). Not a criticism- just an observation for those considering bringing very young children! ||The lodge is fairly isolated so don’t come expecting an action packed time - it’s more a place to relax and unwind in superb surroundings. A small selection of activities are available including a nature walk around the lake. You’d have to go further afield for other excursions. ||Pool could probably do with being cleaned a little more regularly - its was perfectly useable but a fair amount of floating debris from the trees- perhaps just the result of a couple of particularly windy days. ||Overall a lovely little place and really excellent...
Read moreThis lodge has everything I have ever looked for as a well traveled woman. |Location and view are 10 out of 10.|From my room (nr3) I see crater lake and mountains on either side. The lake is swimmable but only if you are really confident swimmer , it reaches to 500 m deep and has no sloping shores. Otherwise just stick to the very nice and heated pool.|Pietro and staff will do everything in their power to make your stay fantastic and relaxing. If you are an active person go on hikes with guide Alex over the hills to discover more crater lakes and villages. Chimp tracking or hotsprings are an hour drive. By own means or thru a touroperator in Fort Portal.|It helps if you have a solid car to reach this place . Although I took the Linkbus from Kampala. Get of at the village and the bodaboda will take you to the lodge for another 2000sh. Works fine!|The cuisine is Italian, never did rucola taste so good. Ofcourse you can order local as well. Whatever the choice is make sure you order in time so they can prepare your meal and serve it at your convenient time. The story of the Duke of Abruzzi getting to the top of the Rwenzori mountains in 1906 is well on display in the restaurant so stop by for this interesting piece of history. Also there is beautiful African Art in each room.|And...during my 6 day stay I had wifi, electricity and warm water around the clock. That is rare in Uganda. I...
Read moreTook a road trip down to Fort Portal and booked into this lodge and had a very peaceful night. Located about 38kms on the Kasesse Road, this lodge is warm with friendly staff. Being on a tight budget for my trip, I had options of choosing between single, double sharing, dormitory and backpacking (tents) lodging and very reasonable prices for bed and breakfast. We were welcomed by the friendly proprietor Pietro who gave a generous group discount on meals after negotiations :) It is situated over a scenic crater lake and you would have a good view of mountain Rwenzori on a clear day. Amenities: there's a swimming pool, a pool table and if you wish to have a peaceful drink, a lounge upstairs overlooking the crater lake. Cons: you have to do your shopping in the town/city as there aren't any kiosks/supermarkets nearby. Pros: Affordable accommodation with options as above, clean, hot water, WiFi, good food. A great...
