Pros||* Big Rooms|* Garden|* Out of the chaos of Lira town|* Quite a variety on breakfast||Cons||* Room finishes were poor|* Some bathrooms leak|* Only Two channels of TV|* Old TV set surely needs an upgrade|* You won’t go far looking for dust in the room and with a rotating fan, flu isn’t far away.|* Rooms not sound proof. You can hear what your side or upper neighbour is up to (in real time).|* The service can be improved. I made a prior booking and on arrival, nobody seemed to find the booking for several minutes. It was a little frustrating. |* Room service takes up to about an hour and a half to deliver. So, make your orders early. |* Hot water wasn’t consistent (at least in the room I slept). On some days, it was as hot as hell..other days, it was lukewarm, regardless of how long you let the shower flow.|* The hotel provides complimentary WIFI. Please inquire from the staff where it works best. The connection isn’t strong in some rooms. I overheard guests complaining that the speed was super slow they wouldn’t get into their mails. ||In conclusion, for the price of UGX 180,000 per night for a single double room, it is slightly overpriced. That aside, it’s a place you can stay in fairly...
Read morePicked out for us, we would have investigated other hotels before deciding. Paint peeling on multiple walls. Laundry service informed us they did not wash underwear when picking up; not sure why not. Laundry returned inside out, nothing folded, and my stretchable dress tied around the bundle instead of a bag. Colonial British atmosphere. Good sized room. Phones in rooms not functional. Water pressure hugely variable. Instant water heater in bathroom too high, couldn't read without standing on the sides of the tub, but even on lowest setting got too hot. Staff very personable. Saw some staff every day for 8 days, not sure if they ever got a day off. Free full breakfast in restaurant. Outlets and air conditioner worked, although trial and error figuring out the air conditioner settings. Didn't try the TV. Walled compound with security guard. Not well sound proofed. Parties 2 floors down were still very noisy even with windows closed and air turned on. Other nights...
Read moreI have stayed in 6 hotels in Lira over the past six years, and the Pauline 2 has been the best so far. The rooms are spacious and equipped with a fan and sizable closets. Best of all, the hotel is away from the discos, so I enjoyed quiet nights rather than listening to pounding music til the wee hours of the morning as occurs in most other Lira hotels. I even had warm showers, something I have not been used to in Lira.||||I held a book launch for Cold Water: Women and Girls of Lira, Uganda with my co-editor and the Lira women authors at the hotel, and the staff did a great job of decorating the conference room and providing a varied and filling lunch. The lunch was the best meal I had at the hotel.||||Two things: The hotel advertises that it has a pool. It does not. Second, the daily fare of food is very limited and not especially great. As I mentioned, the lunch for the book launch was much better than...
