I stayed for 5 nights at Isunga Lodge for a wildlife photography trip to Kibale NP. The lodge is excellent and the hosts, Gerard and Karen Mitchell are not only warm but also very very accommodative. I had numerous requests starting from switching trekking timings to exploring new places. Both Gerard and Karen went out of the way to accommodate them. They even accommodated my requests for a vegetarian meal on one particular day. The cottages are excellent and well maintained. They are not only comfortable but also offer splendid view of the Kibale NP right in front. The park is located very close to the lodge. For birders, the lodge and its surroundings are a joy. From watching a kestrel hunt to sipping coffee to Long Crested Eagles soaring the stay was delighted the birder in me. The staff was very polite and friendly too. The review would be incomplete without mentioning Eve and Jackie who made my stay a success. The in-house guide Exavier is very knowledgeable. His insight into the avifauna of Uganda amazed me. Finally, my guide and driver Wilson was a cherry on the cake. The man personified the East African hospitality. From informing my family about my arrival to keeping them updated to stopping at every by-lane for me to click birds, he went out of the way. The security guards Costa and Samuel were a joy to interact with too. Their cheerfulness made my day. To sum it up, the experience at Isunga was worth much more than what I paid for...
Read moreI had the opportunity to stay 3 nights in this lodge with a friend in December 2022.
Let me start with the location. 8min away from the main road, overseeing the Kibale national park forest, we had the sensation to be part of this luxurious gift of nature. Really the perfect spot to relax, to embrace nature and enjoy the sound of birds.
The service. From the welcome to the daily treatment, we really felt at home. The staff is professional and really attentive to the needs of the customers. Bryan has been really lovely to us, as was Jennifer as well.
The food and beverage. We have been very satisfied, not just by the consistency of the quality of the foods, but as well by the diversity of the dishes. On our last dinner, Elias and Sarah two of the cooks there, made us an incredible dish, including the desert. We were astonished by the flavours and the great taste.
We have been touched as well by the owners, through their openness and interaction with the clients. We also appreciated the fact that they are recommending local guides for certain activities around.
Well, our stay there has been marvelous. And I'm sure it will not be...
Read moreWe visited Isunga Lodge in June and enjoyed its prime, slightly secluded location just outside Kibale National Park, offering a retreat overlooking the Kibale Forest. While the lodge is a bit off the main road, this isolation provides a peaceful environment.
The lodge features beautifully designed garden areas with flowers, trees, and weaver bird nests. Our room was well-equipped with high-quality interiors and a comfortable living space with a sofa.
The service at Isunga Lodge was exceptional, with staff members going above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay. The highlight of our visit was the mouth-watering food. The vegan and vegetarian options, such as the orange cake, potato peanut curry, and potato leek soup, were impressive. Non-vegetarian dishes like the chicken curry and lemon cake were equally delicious.
Overall, Isunga Lodge is a perfect choice for a stay near Kibale National Park. Its excellent location, beautiful facilities, and outstanding service make it an unforgettable...
