I have stayed at Etana (Bukoto) a few times. It's fine but nothing great. Clean but tiny rooms, no restaurant, TV with three channels, very loud and doors that only occasionally lock. Unfortunately, the last time I stayed at Etan it went horribly and I will never stay there again, nor would I recommend anyone stay there.||||I checked in for three nights, on the second night around 10pm there were two attempted break-ins to my room. Nobody was around to report this to. At around 6am the following morning a man managed to open the door (remember, the locks on the glass sliding glass doors are questionable) and walk into the room. Because of the heavy curtains I couldn't see the person's face. I shouted and moved towards the person, who fled. Looking out the door there was no one on the floor and no security guard our front. I called the front desk, heard it ring, and then heard the receptionist say, from the next room, "I have to go, the phone is ringing." When I informed her what happened she asked, "why didn't you lock the door?" Not, "are you okay?" or "let me come up." She put the blame on me--not even waiting to find out that I had locked the door but it had been compromised.||||I packed my bags and got into my car to go to the bank so I could pay my bill and get the heck out. The receptionist and security guard locked me into the parking yard, refusing to allow me to go. Harsh words were exchanged and the manager called. A seemingly reasonable man, he understood why I would not want to leave my belongings in a hotel room that was broken into and allowed me to leave. I returned, paid my bill and I will never return to this place....
Read moreSmall , Cozy, and in a nice location - about 15 - 20 mins into town. Lots of beautiful Hill side scenery to enjoy. Was here for a business Trip and it's such an ideal place for one with business motives. I wouldn't recommend it for leisure, however if couples / singles need a place to crash as they go along their business - not bad at all. The room can be pretty cold due to the sliding doors , so carry some warm clothing for the evening. ||Not much space in the room, but it's a great bargain for an en-suit with nice fixtures and interiors. There is a study table too for work work work. There is a whole shopping area with forex, banks, cybers, super markets, blah blah.. just up the road about 5 - 10 mins walk from the motel.||Down side: Doors don't lock, so lock your baggage. The road leading to the lodge is all weather but short distance so guarantee of mud or dusty feet when talking a walk. My light in bath wasn't working.. funny, coz i needed to use it in the night / early morning.. hope they fix that. They promised internet - and was not easy to get it, but eventually with nagging i did as i needed to send reports daily. The breakfast is tooo basic. Nice creamy drinking chocolate in a pot with simple toast slices and banana or egg. Etana, you can do little better. Noisy nights when bar's unleash their music on Wed + Friday's Anyway travelers - this is a basic Lodge, so you'll be happy if you are just looking for a clean place to stay - all eating and Entertainment can be done outside. The TV is not on cable but local channels. I didn't mind it that much. Hope the care takers smile more - people like to talk and be...
Read moreI had my worst Ugandan experience here. The motel is tucked away from the heart of Kampala. It has no concern for Safety and Security of guests.
The fan in the room has no control to increase or reduce the speed, you can only switch it on or off. There are no ACs. The TV has no remote control and so you are forced to watch whatever is displayed. The volume control on the TV was bad.
The rooms had a lot of mosquitoes, it's difficult not to fall sick. The mosquito nets on the bed were dirty and inside it was full of big bedbugs.
The facility does not serve food so guests have to go and look for restaurants. There is no heater and the staff do not provide hot water for guests.
The security gate is opened by any available staff and checks are not carried out. POS are not used and staff tend to hold back guests' change...
