Ok it's a lot of reasons....staff were INCREDIBLE! I can't remember everyone's but it started with the welcome staff down in the parking area to the nighttime security gentleman who always made sure we were shown with a flashlight to our room but let me try! Precious who gave us the best massages and facial we have had (including the US!); Adam our housekeeper who got our trekking shoes cleaned like brand new and our clothes laundered and back to us in record time; Judith who serviced our meals, wake up calls and coffee as well as made sure we were prepared for our hikes with lunch, waters, gaiters etc, Simon and Elly who prepared the best cocktails! (Give the margaritas a try! Served up and not overly sweet---they give the best Mexican restaurants a run for their money); Menard the chef who fed us such that we gained so much weight it was ridiculous---soups, meats ( try the beef steaks and hamburgers! OMG!) and the hotel manager, Nicolas, who pulled a few rabbits out of his hat when we ran into a travel challenge---that man is amazing! This is a 6 star luxury resort and don't bother looking further ---you just found THE ONE! They will close at the end of Oct 2024 for 5 month for renovations and updates but if you are lucky enough to stay here come April 2025 or later all I can say is I envy you because it was amazing to start with---can't even imagine how great it will...
Read moreThis review has been long due. First the good side. The rooms are really nice, great shower so no complaints on that front.
Service and food wise it is disappointing when you compare it to lodges in South Africa or Namibia, in the same price range
The manager tells you a marketing story (to go the extra mile, you know the drill) but does not really engage with the guests. No complaints on the rest of the staff I must say.
You have to call the room service on a talkie, but half of the time there was no response. If they answer they send somebody up to the room (this can take a while) to take you order. Not sure why they can't just take your order on the talkie.
But the biggest disappointment is the food, it's basically always the same with not a lot of variety.
We were there to celebrate New Years Eve. It was the same menu as the days before. No champagne (or something else) or appetizers were offered. It was just another day at the office.
Is this being picky? Probably, but when you pay this amount you can expect top notch service and food.
We had better food and service in Uganda for 1/5th of the price we paid here. This place is just not...
Read moreWhat an amazing location. It's one of two camps located inside the Bwindi Forest National Park, which makes this a coveted place to stay as it's only a 2 minute walk to the base entrance for gorilla trekking.
Manager Nicolas and team were super friendly and welcomed us warmly. We were on our honeymoon and they surprised us with a bottle of rose when we arrived.
Gordon was our driver from the Kihihi airstrip to Sanctuary Camp and was extremely knowledgeable about the culture of Ugandans in Bwindi along with the indigenous people of the forest there, the Batwa.
The camp also offers very affordable massages that we took advantage of and Precious was amazing - highly recommended after a long day of strenuous trekking in the forest.
The food, while great, did leave something to be desired. A bit on the plain side but I'm sure over time it will get refined.
If you're looking for the best accommodation to stay at for gorilla trekking,...
