We had booked this place for our trip in November 2017, wanting to encourage a community-run initiative. We had little information about what to expect but as they were charging 100 USD per double we expected something relatively comfortable. We were asked to pay 40 GBP in advance.||We got to the place very late (10pm) as our car broke down and had to be repaired in Kasese. Once we got there, we could hardly believe it : 4 extremely basic huts which did not seem finished, not electricity, no candles, no torches (we would have been in total darkness if we hadn't had our own torches), hardly any running (cold) water... for 100 USD??? We told Eddy that we would not be paying anything else that the 40 GBP already paid in advance, and after some discussion this was accepted.||When I complained to the charity behind this project I was told that most people are happy to pay this amount as they are aware that they are helping the community and it is still much cheaper than the other options in the park... it seemed like they didn't really understand the situation.||However from the prices and comments I have seen on Booking and TripAdvisor it seems that since then : 1) the place has been finished and the huts are better furnished, 2) the prices charged are in line with the type of accommodation offered.||One very positive thing about this place was enjoying the lakeside and the hippoes just before sunrise, which is something which we would have enjoyed even more if we hadn't had the sensation of being severely...
Read moreIf you want western plumbing, wifi in your room and cute folded napkins on the table at dinnertime - go somewhere else (and pay a lot more!)||If you're happy to bath with a bucket of hot water heated over a fire and to sit by a campfire eating grilled freshly-caught lake fish while Hippos grunt in the dark around you - you are an adventurer and you will love this wild place.||I stayed here for two nights as part of a short trip to Q.Elizabeth National Park with owner Denis . It was at the peak of the rainy season - a rough time for safari - but the simple en suite bungalows were dry and comfortable, the food amazing (lots of incredibly delicous fish with some of the best roast potatos I have ever tasted). Denis seems to know everyone in the area and every little backroad through the park; despite the heavy rains we successfully navigated the muddy, flooded tracks (we did get stuck once) and enjoyed a wealth of wildlife in the park including Lions and a Leopard.||The Guesthouse is right by the lake and borders the park - plenty of wildlife around here too - Waterbuck stroll around and at night Hippos graze the grassy open area (bring a flashlight!). As a birdwatcher I especially enjoyed the rich variety of birs here and even picked up a real rarity (a Capped Wheatear) which had not been observed in Uganda since over 50 years (it was hopping around just outside my bungalow!). ||A great place, a real taste of the wild, not for the pampered or the...
Read moreThe location of this lodge is perfect. You feel you are camping and yet you have rooms to go into with your own bathroom. Not luxury - but who needs luxury accommodation when you are right at Queen Elizabeth National Park and your sharing your lakeside view with hordes of hippos!!! Elephants can walk by as you are sitting there and when darkness comes - you see beautiful impalas coming together for safety nearby. Hyenas were gliding around in the background too - this is why you go to these places - to feel alive and alert all the time. A big Water buffalo sunned himself the next morning thankfully ignoring us.... Camp Fire to jsut enjoy the surroundings after being served up the most delicious food. It was really tasty and very plentiful. Breakfast and lunch by the lake the next day was a fantastic experience where we witnessed birds and bobbing hippos keeping cool in the water while we say in the shaded area...
