We were booked to stay at Marafiki Safari Lodge for two nights during our visit to Queen Elizabeth Park but checked out after 1 agonizing night.||The lodge is terribly mismanaged. There were no staff in sight when we arrived and we wondered if we were at a working property. Finally people appeared - an entire staff of 4 - scurried to provide registration materials. The registration was through a QR code and entirely on line. It wasn’t very personal at all.||En route to our room, we were faced with a steep, up hill climb. The room is a cabin with 2 tented walls that open up to a veranda. This would be great, however, the forest has not been trimmed close to the veranda and offers limited views. The bathroom is through another locking door and is open to the outside.||Disappointing was the wall of heat we faced in the room that was overwhelming! There was no escape from the heat even with the screens open. A fan was provided in the room which provided short lived reprieve until the power shut off! We were now in a sweat lodge!!||The bathroom had its own set of issues. The taps had no retainer rings or nuts to affix them onto the sink. They were partially siliconed in place which provided little stability. Each time the tap was turned on, the entire fixture rotated. The shower used commercial knife valves as taps. There was no mixer valve or anything that resembled a bathroom fixture. The valves were something a plumber uses in a crawlspace to shut off water systems.||We thought that a dip in the pool might cool us off so we changed into our bathing suits only to arrive at a non-circulating pool whose bottom could not be seen due to dirt. The pool loungers were scattered in a haphazard manner with no regard for guests visual appeal. ||The lodge has no back up generator, minimal staff and a manager that doesn’t know how to manage. We paid for 2 nights but left after 1 - it was horrible!||Do NOT stay here. The Buffalo Safari Lodge would be a much...
Read moreWe stayed here for two nights, the proximity to Queen Elisabeth NP is an advantage. On the way to the lodge we weren't quite sure whether we were in the right place.
The view from this lodge is awesome. No matter whether you are standing in front of your hut, lying by the pool or sitting in the dining area. With a little better weather we would certainly have seen Lake George better.
The staff are very accommodating, and everything about the food is excellent. Like many other lodges there is a menu with a vegetarian option. We enjoyed it excellently.
The cabins are generously sized, there is a small veranda in front of each cabin. With a bit of luck you can see lizards and snakes sunning themselves on the stones.
We really enjoyed our stay and would like to...
