Wow. I cannot say enough good things about my stay here. Magical honestly, and I would happily return, not least as the accommodation is rustic but great value. ||The beauty of southern Uganda comes right to you when staying here. It has been weeks yet I can see it so vividly. The lush garden with all the beautiful flowers; the singing birds…and don’t get me started on the night sky. I’ve never seen stars like that. Wow. ||The breakfast. Dear God… perfection. Every day, it was fresh, delicious, varied, and they even catered to all of my difficult dietary restrictions. This was a highlight, and it introduced me to the incredible akabanga oil! They even prepared an early breakfast for me to go gorilla trekking. All the meals were convenient and delicious.||Activities: I was honestly content to just read or do some work in the garden and enjoy a quiet, soft life here…but I also decided to switch it up with a day of gorilla trekking. Alex from the cafe coordinated it and I had the time of my life. The park is stunning and, although I am not quite a hiker, the trek was doable. I went up with only one other woman, and we so had so much fun watching and walking with the gorillas.||The people: Joseph, the manager, is simply the best. Perfectly professional and solicitous, yet friendly—and funny! Our time hanging out was another highlight of my time there, including when he taught us a few card games to play by the fire. This is a family business, and his and Waltraud’s down-to-earth warmth is reflected even in the guests, all of whom I enjoyed meeting....

Read moreI went with the University of Connecticut Global Medicine Team. The setting is beautiful with birds awakening us every morning. The breakfasts were superb with fruit, eggs. French toast, native honey, warm rolls coffee and tea. The support from staff was excellent with help in cleaning rooms and laundry. The rooms were spacious and comfortably furnished (mosquito netting for all beds). The Stone House has a library, fireplace, comfortable seating; it is a pleasant gathering place. The gardens are spectacular. For the group of physicians working in the adjacent hospital and nursing school this guest house could not have...
