We recently had the opportunity to stay at ICHUMBI GORILLA LODGE, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled amidst the lush landscapes of right on the edge of Uganda impenetrable forest, the lodge offers a truly immersive encounter with nature. The staff was warm and welcoming, making sure every need was met.

The lodge itself boasts comfortable accommodations with a rustic charm, and the gorilla-themed decor adds a unique touch. The highlight, of course, was the proximity to the gorilla habitat. Waking up to the sounds of the forest and having the chance to embark on gorilla trekking expeditions was a dream come true. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate, enhancing the overall adventure.

One thing to note is that the journey to ICHUMBI GORILLA LODGE involves a challenging off-roading drive. The rugged terrain adds an element of adventure to the trip, but it’s essential to be prepared for a bumpy ride. The remote location of the lodge is a double-edged sword, as it provides an authentic and secluded experience but requires some effort to reach.

Due to the hard off-roading nature of the drive, it’s recommended to have a sturdy vehicle and a sense of adventure. And what we mean by this make sure if you’re hiring a tour company that they have a heavy duty off-road vehicle. Preferably with air condition. We double check that we got a very nice Land Cruiser. This part of the journey might not be suitable for those who prefer smoother rides. However, once you arrive at the lodge, the breathtaking views and unique experiences make the challenging drive well worth it.

Overall, ICHUMBI GORILLA LODGE is perfect for nature enthusiasts and adventurers who are willing to tackle a rough drive in exchange for an authentic wildlife encounter. The memories and stories we gained from this journey will undoubtedly be cherished for...

I booked a gorilla trek and Batwa community experience at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park through a tour company and this was the lodge they booked for me. Staying here was a wonderful experience. Staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and welcoming, and the food for each meal was delicious. Coffee is available at any time for no additional cost, and same with laundry services. I especially enjoyed the evening performance by the children of the local community - they will pull you up from the audience to dance with them, and you have an opportunity to support them by purchasing some crafts they made including hand carved gorillas and woven products - well worth the money all around. The phone data connection was non-existent for me and the wifi only works in reception/restaurant area. This makes sense because it is located in a remote/mountainous/forested area and you shouldn't really be coming for the wifi but just a heads up in case you need connections to work remotely (like me unfortunately). At night, the staff will place a container with hot water in your bed to warm it up for you because it does get very cold at night, and they leave a cute card on the bed when they do this with a poem about the area and the lodge. I thought that was a nice touch.

I highly recommend Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge for your lodging during your gorilla...

ICHUMBI was a fantastic place to stay and work with. We spent 2 nights here to see the Gorillas. Not only was everything organized for the stay, it was also seamless for the gorillas.

As apart of our stay here we had a driver pick us up from our hotel in Rwanda and drive us to ICHUMBI. Micheal was an amazing driver and fantastic person to help us on this experience. He guided us through passport control and helped us find food on the drive up. He also was a great sounding board to help us determine what activities we should do at the lodge. He honestly made our experience so much better.

Once we got here, everything was organized for us. We got a candlelight sit down dinner every night with amazing 4 course meals. We also had the ability to get our clothes cleaned and the beds were made up every night. It was a fantastic hotel and stay experience.

Finally the lodge helped us organize our gorilla trekking experience. They bought the tickets and organized the drives to and from the forest. They put everything together and spent the dinner before prepping us. They even packed us lunches for us to eat on the trail. When we got to the experience, we felt we were very equipped for the hike.

Overall this was a fantastic experience. We felt very taken care of and prepared. I highly recommend this place as a great...

Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge has one of the best locations if you’re going gorilla trekking, it’s like a 5 min drive to the park gate. The amenities at the lodge are great, such as the restaurant, the terrace, massages, cleaning dirty hiking boots, and laundry. But what truly makes this lodge stand out is the staff - David and his team are amazing and welcoming. The women who serve the meals were lovely. On our drive back from Golden monkey trekking, our guide/driver picked up a bunch of fresh local fruit and sugarcane. The staff obliged us in cutting everything up for us and serving it. They were happy to do so and we were able to share it with some of the other guests as well. When I was looking for lodges, I spent a lot of time searching for someplace clean, beautiful, and, I’ll be honest, high end. After trekking all day long, we really wanted to go back to a comfortable room with a warm shower. While the bathrooms are still a bit rustic at Ichumbi, they do get the job done and the water was warm. Every night they left a hot water bottle in our bed, and would clean our shoes after each of our days trekking in the beautiful but muddy Ugandan forests. Oh, and how could I forget, my favorite part was returning every day from trekking and being greeted with a warm eucalyptus washcloth. So refreshing!

We have stayed in over 10 lodges in Africa, some of them very well known ones from upscale brands and all of them are trained very well the way treat their guests. But, the manager, David and his entire team took it a level where the genuine warmth came across. We stayed for two nights, primarily to do the Gorilla Trek and did an afternoon of birding. Wish we had planned to stay a day longer. The food was excellent and the presentation as well. They had an option for local cuisine and we made sure we ordered them (matoke for example) and they were very tasty. The room was small and nice with a large wrap around verandah. The seating area outside the dining room was very nice to enjoy the views and the sunbirds. They also provide a free shoe cleaning service when you return from the trek and give you sandals while they are getting cleaned. We didn't carry any spare pair of shoes, but the sandals worked just fine. I wish I got the same service at other lodges. And this place is literally 5 minutes drive from the Bwindi gate where you register and they assign you to trekking groups.
