My teenage son and I had an amazing stay at Kaara Lodge in Uganda — it went far beyond anything we expected. From the second we stepped out of the car and were greeted at the entry gates with a drum performance, we knew this place was going to be an experience.||The lodge has a special feel to it — built to fit naturally into the landscape, up on a hilltop, with incredible views in every direction. Our cottage was peaceful and well put together, making it the perfect place to relax after a full day of gorilla tracking and exploring. There are trails right off the property too, so if you enjoy walking through nature, it’s easy to get out and see more of the area. And if you’re doing a gorilla trek, they’ve really thought of everything — we were provided with gear and tips that made the whole experience easier and more enjoyable.||What stood out most, though, was the people. The staff are what make Kaara feel more like a luxury resort than just a lodge.||Wilbur, the hotel manager, is warm, funny, and clearly cares deeply about each guest’s experience. We had some really great chats with him — lots of laughs — and you can tell he’s always thinking about how to improve the lodge and support the community around it. My son even got some solid life advice from him.||Barnabas, who heads up the Service Team, was just as impressive. He was always one step ahead — checking in on meals, adjusting to any requests, and even personally guiding us on a nice nearby hike. He has a calm, thoughtful way of making everyone feel welcome and looked after.||The rest of the team was amazing too. Before our gorilla trek (which was amazing), they handed out gaiters and walking sticks. After the trek, they cleaned our muddy boots, and made sure we were comfortable at every stage. You really get the sense they enjoy what they do and take pride in the guest experience.||If you’re heading to Uganda, definitely check out Kaara Lodge. Just a heads up — the road there is pretty bumpy, so make sure...
Read moreKaara Gorilla Mountain Lodge lies on a hill beautifully overlooking the surrounding mountains and valleys, including the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. When we entered the gate, we were received by a drummer. The hotel manager Wilfred and extremely friendly staff greeted us with smiles and refreshing towels. We were shown the very clean and comfortable rooms by the ever-smiling Moses who took care of us during our entire stay (laundry, cleaning hiking shoes, helping us with our bags, preparing our bed with a hot water bottle in the evenings, etc.). Equally friendly and extremely attentive is the restaurant staff Barnabas and Arakis who served excellent quality food and drinks, be it for breakfast in the morning or for dinner. After our daily activities (e.g., Gorilla trekking, Golden Monkeys) we sat on the terrace overlooking the valley with sundowner drinks and snacks provided the two. In addition, the WIFI worked very smoothly. Thank you to the Kaara team for making this great experience possible and treating...
Read moreKaara lodge is an incredibly special place. Situated high up in the mountains it’s hard to believe this place can exist so high up, the views are beautiful. The lodge itself is surrounded by a beautiful garden and had everything we could have wanted. The food was delicious. On the day we went gorilla trekking, we were provided with a substantial packed lunch, water bottles and sticks for the steep terrain. We felt so looked after. The best aspect of our stay was the very friendly and attentive staff. Our welcome by the manager was so warm and kind. All the staff made so much effort to make sure our stay was just right for us. Make sure to attend the cultural dancing by locals that come to the lodge, it’s a brilliant evening. We had a great stay and would recommend this place for...
