Igongo Cultural Centre & Country Hotel is located in Mbarara in the southwestern area of Uganda. From Uganda’s Capital Kampala, the countryside towards Mbarara with more and more banana plantations and lots of Ankole cattle grazing. Mbarara is a busy and rapidly developing town. It is a lively town that received many visitors and is a crossroads for travellers heading towards the Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo, Rwenzori Mountains, Kabale in the southwest as well as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Igongo Cultural Centre & Country Hotel has everything to offer visitors, which include a bar, restaurant, craftshop, lawns. I recently had the pleasure of staying at Igongo Country Hotel and Cultural Centre, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of rural Uganda, this hotel offers a unique blend of comfort, culture, and natural beauty.

The rooms were spacious and clean, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The staff were friendly and welcoming, always eager to share their knowledge of the local culture and traditions.

The cultural centre on site was a highlight, with fascinating exhibits and performances showcasing Uganda's rich heritage. The food was delicious, with a focus on local ingredients and traditional dishes.

I highly recommend Igongo Country Hotel and Cultural Centre to anyone looking for an authentic and enriching experience in rural Uganda. It's a true gem!

Pros:

We only went there twice during the round trip from Kampala to Bunyonyi lake to take lunch and make a car stop. We ate from the buffet which has all the variety of food you can need. I have allergies and the waiters helped me avoid the dishes that would make me sick. Also some people in my group were vegetarians and we all found delicious things to eat. The beer and the coffee are also very good here. Waiters are very polite and professional. The surroundings are very well decorated, with beautiful gardens and flowers and also some barnyard birds trying to steal food between tables. The place seems to be very demanded for weddings since we had seen brides and grooms taking pictures outside every time we stopped. There are guards posted at the parking entrance so it's safe to leave...

Stopped by for buffet lunch. Good choice of hot food and side salads for 40k ugx. Vegetarians will enjoy options too. Rather pricey but good selection with soup starter and desserts. It wasn't very busy so the waitress should have taken our drinks order more quickly. I was halfway through eating lunch before she came to serve us. Service levels generally lacking everywhere. A sign talks of Uganda Wildlife Authority tourist information but lady at the gift shop could not advise where to go for that. Clean toilets. #diaryofamuzungu #EastAfricaTravelDirectory #ExploreUganda

What a lovely place! Absolutely marvelous! Clean, neat, spacious and just beautiful! It's very accessible because it's on the road, you just can't miss it. The menu is vast, you will find a variety of both local and international dishes, there's a gift shop and a museum. I won't lie, it's not cheap, coz the rooms are in dollars of 100 and above, so one has to have some money to sleep here. Apart from that, everything seemed to be on point! The service was good, security was there, and the beer was cold 😜. Lovely lovely place, I loved it!
