Absolutely stunning guest house my children (3 boys) absolutely loved their stay terry and lennette the hosts owners are the kindest and most welcoming hosts we have ever came across honestly they made us feel at home and gave my children full run of the garden snacks to eat and juice even turned the hot tub on for them to play in The room we stayed in was beautiful and clean not one thing bad we can say this is definitely going to be our place to go when my kids and I need a break pet friendly environment Thankyou so much for having us and understanding that children make noise unlike other places we stayed in we are definitely coming back soon xxxx

A lovely clean friendly family run bed and breakfast which also does lovely evening meals. The owners make you feel like you are part of the family. All home country cooking. Lynette makes a lovely fish pie ! The breakfast and evening meals are delicious. They do a lovely full English or whatever you want. There is an extra charge for the evening meal which is very reasonable. The b and b is full of character with lots of ornaments and home made furniture by the owner Terry. There is a lovely lounge with T.V. and a beautiful log burner fire. The rooms are very clean and the beds clean and comfortable. I can highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

If you wish to stay somewhere quaint and olde world in deepest Essex, this is it. A real listed house with wonkyness in spades. The host, Terry is very helpful. There's an inglehook fireplace is the setpiece and, it makes it very cosy. Susan and I had a very restful night. In the morning we had a shower which was just so. Breakfast was great and we couldn't wish for a better stay.

As we drove in, it looked like Steptoe's junk yard! The first thing I noticed was the 5* food safety rating, I looked at the date 2016. Well, as we walked in, it was a total shambles ,dirty, smelly & a cat walking over the kitchen table, with food, everywhere. We were told we are in the cabin in the garden (it was just a shed, with damp walls, mould, a door that fitted where it touched. ) Over we went, the lady said there was a new shower but mould was everywhere. It had 2 double beds & 1 single, all damp. I quizzed her about all the dampness/wet wall/ceiling, to which she said we've had a lot of rain lately. Unbelievable. There is no way anyone would sleep in there. Apparently, the guest house was full, I very much doubt that as the house looked as bad as the cabin. I explained that we wouldn't be staying, due to everything we had seen, she said ok. I asked that we wouldn't be charged, and we wasn't. I did report the findings to E.H.O. who went 2 days later to do a full food safety inspection on which the owners have lots to do to improve it. They will be rechecked on this. Please think twice...

Terry and lynn were lovely hosts they was polite and helpful with anything we need terry showed us the hot tub he just installed, he showed the games room, his chickens, he showed us around the whole place and was very helpful. the building is beautiful inside and out and from the 13th century which makes it 900 years old and still lived in by terry and lynn I will definitely be staying again with my partner Jane, on our visit we stayed 1 night in grandads room the bed was comfortable and cosy in the morning we had a lovely fry up cooked by lynn and served by terry the eggs come from the chickens terry has . Free WiFi, breakfast and coffee me and partner was very happy staying here we felt safe and like we had known the hosts for years we could have sat and chatted for hours and hours all the rooms have character and feel warm and welcoming I'd rather stay here again then go to a bland chain hotel with all the rooms looking the same

10 out 10 for the bridge street historic guest house terry and lynn were the best they should be very proud of what...

If you're looking for a unique stay in a charming 13th-century building, this guest house offers rustic allure on top of a former king's roundhouse. It features a grand 12-foot fireplace, scattered artefacts, and a cozy atmosphere rich in country charm.

Expect historic character over modern amenities, with quirky, misshaped rooms like the Rose Bedroom. Quilt lined walls. An array of memorabilia and ancient signs stamping its influence all around the house.

The owners prioritize your comfort, sharing the property's intriguing history if you engage with them. Enjoy your meals by the fireplace, and feel free to bring your own friendly pets; the house and owners are extremely welcoming.

If things seemingly disordered, old or make shift do not appeal to you then this is not the place for you. But if you realise that historic and period buildings and lifestyles were often tagged on to previous generations, utilising every space, developing creative license, then you’ll really appreciate stepping back in time without all the trappings of a...
