We have been staying at the Premier Inn (Basildon South/Haywain) for the past 12+ weeks due to water damage and building work at our property. We were given the option of staying at various other local hotels. However, living locally and knowing the locations of the other hotels (not all Premier Inns and most in the noisy Festival Leisure Park area) we chose the Basildon South location without hesitation. The staff have been amazing and supportive in what could have been a stressful time for us. We have also used other Premier Inns around the country and have had good stays each time. As other people have commented, the rooms are of the old style. The TVs are very small compared to the newer hotels. This in no way detracts from the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms. We stayed over the winter months and found our room warm and comfortable. There are desk fans in the rooms for the warmer seasons. We are both very light sleepers and have always had a good nights sleep. The hotel is ideally situated next to the A13. We had a room overlooking the car park and had no issue with noise. All too often these days, people like to complain but I think ALL of the staff at the hotel need recognition for their service and friendliness. Nothing was too much trouble for them whether it was getting extra pillows and towels, to booking reservations for our meals and even finding out what time various shops were open. The staff are a credit to the hotel. There was always a warm welcome whenever we came into the hotel and there was genuine interest and concerns regarding our situation. There is a Beefeater restaurant next door, which we used regularly. I would recommend booking a table if you are wanting weekend breakfasts, weekday and weekend evening meals as it can...
Read moreVery dissapointed this time. We went to Premier Inn restaurant this weekend, for a breakfast, like we usually do.
We ordered the English and Continental Breakfast, very sad to find out they never had Bubble and Squeak in stock, especially if you are vegetarian/vegan you don't get a lot of options. The hasbrown they had was very oily, so I could not have more than half of it.
Then I said to myself to enjoy the Continental Breakfast, (it was 10am the brekfast lasts until 11am) so I warmed up some pancakes afterwhich I fancied some Pain au raisins or Pain au chocolat, like they said in the menu. There was no Pain au cholcolats whatsoever, not even the label, and 2 pieces of Pain au raisins left. We kindly ask if they can top up with it, but guess what? They've run out of them. It was only 10am!!!
At least I had some pancakes and some coffee. Coffee?!? I prefer going to Premier Inn for their unlimited Costa Coffee.... but guess what?? No Costa Coffee Machine!
So in the end we paid £19.00 for some eggs, beans, oily hasbrowns, mushrooms, pancakes, fruits and Cheap Coffee with Cold Milk! Not the best Sunday Morning!
Very sad. Next time I make sure I will double check if they have the mains in stock...
Read moreBrooke the lady at reception was really lovely to deal with. She was professional, polite, proactive, helpful and friendly. I imagine that if she's treated well and valued within the company she'll do well.
The rooms were clean and adequate. As usual the beds were very comfortable. I liked the fact there were bedside tables on both side of the bed. However, my champagne problem request would be to have plugs on both side of the bed as opposed to none and usb type C ports as well as type A. In the room plug points are only on 1 side of the room at the desk and in today's need for connection to technology the lack of plug points is a hindrance. In a family room you may need to plug in phones, laptops, tablets, hair styling tools etc.
Unfortunately, the bathroom could have been cleaner and there appears to be something growing under the tap where the shower hose is connected. That definitely needs to be looked at, it's...
