Hawthorn Hideaway — Hotel in Bassetlaw

What can we say about Hawthorn Hideaway, well to be honest no words can truly do it justice. Both my Husband and I were 40 within a week of each other and booked to stay in Swan lodge for our birthdays. From the moment we arrived the special little touches of our romantic break away together begun even a trolley from the car to take your stuff to the cabin was there. Upon entering our cabin we found some personalised chocolates and a birthday card from Jo and Ronnie. The first impressions of the cabin itself were "wow this is amazing". Shortly after we arrived Jo and Ronnie (and Melody) came to introduce themselves and took us on a tour, showing us where everything was and even took us on the narrow boat which they we currently living in to trial for future couples. When we returned to the cabin we began to find even more little touches - complimentary breakfast hamper, with stuff from the local butcher (this made a great fry up the next morning) and fresh eggs from the chickens. A little cleaning hamper, sleep spray next to our huge bed - now at home I rarely sleep more than 4 or 5 hours at night at best, but whilst staying here I slept at least 8-9 hours a night, every night. also a little plaque with our names on the outside of the cabin so personal and welcoming. The bbq hut is a magical experience in itself, we booked this for one evening and enjoyed it so much we asked if we could have it again for another night, even though we asked last minute this wasnt a problem with Jo and Ronnie. The sauna cabin was great couples thing to do as well, once at night looking out over the duck pond in the dark, one morning in the pouring rain and a couple more times too. Whilst there we also booked for a couples massage which was so relaxing and enjoyable, even my husband fell asleep during it. They have a family of chickens within the grounds which came to visit us many times during our week, a couple were even brave enough to come and join us in the cabin for a while. The cabin itself was just wow, a huge bed with fairy lights behind, so comfy and cozy. Fully fitted kitchen, using the kettle on the hob was an experience but just something else that added to our memories - as we now refer to it as the chicken kettle due to the noise it makes when its about ready. Then theres the log burner fire right in front of the sofa, this made it so warm and cozy and we used this multiple times during our stay. Also in the cabin are some quirky little handmade ornaments, just the little touches that add to the magic. Then theres the hottub just outside your front door, absolutly amazing using this at night with all the fairy lights around the trees twinkling away making it look really magical, rain falling but sitting under the gazebo in a nice warm hottub - just perfect. A week here really wasnt long enough, however it is one of the most memorable, perfect weeks away we have had. Even more perfect for our 40ths. It will definitely be a place we will be returning to as a yearly holiday absolutely perfect location so many places to eat surrounding the area there really isn't enough words to describe the sheer perfectness of this place literally everything was thought of 1000% recommend hawthorn hideaway.

Unforgettable Birthday & Proposal Experience at Hawthorn Hideaway

From the moment we arrived at Hawthorn Hideaway, it was like stepping into a dream. My partner surprised me with this incredible trip for my birthday, and every detail exceeded anything I could have imagined.

The hideaway is tucked away in a serene, private woodland area, with just two cabins, each equipped with its own hot tub. The privacy was a huge relief for me as I wear a hijab, and it allowed me to completely relax and unwind without worry. The cabin itself was a masterpiece—beautifully decorated with hanging roses, rose petals, and balloons. The thoughtful decor brought me to tears of happiness, setting the tone for what would become one of the most memorable stays of my life.

The owners were so welcoming and kind, and it became clear how much effort both my partner and the team at Hawthorn Hideaway had put into making this experience perfect. On the first evening, I was told to get ready for dinner in the yurt. Little did I know, it would be the most magical moment of my life.

When I entered the yurt with my eyes closed, I opened them to find the most breathtaking proposal setup and an intimate private dining experience waiting for us. We were treated to an incredible meal prepared by our private chef, Sarah. Sarah had worked closely with my partner to plan a personalised menu that was nothing short of extraordinary. As two foodies, we were blown away by her culinary expertise and her ability to pair flavors so thoughtfully.

Sarah went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary needs, sourcing halal meat and even crafting her first-ever mocktail, which turned out to be absolutely delightful. Her attention to detail was impeccable, from the stunning presentation of the dishes to the personalised menu she created just for us. The entire experience was magical, and yes, I cried again!

The rest of our stay was equally enchanting. We enjoyed the outdoor sauna with views of a peaceful lake and the soothing sounds of birdsong. One evening, we booked the BBQ hut, which provided a unique and cozy indoor-outdoor dining experience. Mornings were a surprise too, waking up to the clucking of chickens, hahah!

To top it all off, we enjoyed the delicious breakfast hamper filled with goodies and spent time around the fire pit roasting marshmallows and sharing cozy moments together. I also indulged in a reflexology session, which was incredibly relaxing and a wonderful touch to an already perfect trip.

Hawthorn Hideaway and its team went above and beyond to give us an unforgettable experience that we will cherish forever. Their attention to detail, passion for creating memorable moments, and genuine care for their guests shine through in everything they do. This place now holds a very special place in our hearts, and we can’t wait to return.

Wow where do I start, you made a potentially stressful surprise 40th birthday night away an absolute pleasure to arrange. From the point of first contact right until check out the communication and service was exceptional. The moment the gates opened we was met with a feeling of tranquillity and calm, the hustle and bustle of life just melted away. We were greeted and shown to our lodge, which was the Owl Lodge. The lodge is beautiful and even better in real life, everything in it had a luxury feel, the bedding and towels were soft and of high quality. The balloons as arranged were in place and exactly as described. We then had the most relaxing couples massage in the tranquil and comfortably warm yurt. It was unbelievable; I have had many a massage over the years, some in the UK top spa’s and this was up there as one of the best. We then used the sauna, which was ready and set up for us, with towels and was exceptionally clean. We decided to retreat to the lodge for a while to relax, where the beautiful chickens came to say hi on the decking and really entertained us, but they were respectful and did not invite themselves in. We made use of the rain shower which again was powerful and hot. It was then time to go to the yurt where they had transformed it into the most beautiful setting for our private fine dining package, Candles and mood lighting with our own music playing added to the cosy ambience. WOW the food was unreal, full of flavour and looked stunning. Yet again a sense of relaxation and there was no rush all was in our own time, which was a common theme throughout our stay. We made use of the hot tub which was clean and put a lovely end to the evening. We lit the fire in the lodge, where the wood supplied was plentiful and this also had a lovely relaxing feel to it. The bed was WONDERFULLY comfortable and with a spritz of the complimentary sleep spray we had the most amazing night sleep. The breakfast hamper was of premium quality and really set us up for the day, we really did not want to leave, and we both said that we felt so relaxed and refreshed. Even on leaving there was a birthday card on the car window with a beautiful picture of the lodge on, again another beautiful touch. The night away was so easy to arrange inclusive of the optional extra’s. It felt like it was all too simple, and it was too good to be true, but it absolutely was not, everything was perfect. The attention to detail was phenomenal and no stone had been left unturned. So, thank you to all that was involved in our night away, it was even more perfect than I imagine.
