We've just come back from our second visit camping on site. The first visit at Easter was so good we went back. The second visit was not as good. To start with, despite saying campfires and BBQs are welcome, they were not due to the recent hot weather. This is perfectly understandable, however we've always had emails advising us of of any change at other campsites in the past. We weren't notified of the change and had therefore bought lots of our own food to cook on the fire which went to waste because we weren't allowed to cook it. It's easy enough to send a quick email in advance to notify of these changes. The site is overrun by ants and wasps. Again, this is to be expected to an extent by campers, however it's clearly an endemic problem as both ants and wasps were everywhere. Notice to this effect would have meant we could have taken precautions against them. I've since seen other reviews commenting on the proclivity of ants and wasps, so the campsite are clearly aware of them and should warn that precautions must be taken. Despite ensuring everything was closed and sealed, they still managed to get into everything and I was kept awake at night by ants crawling on me. The final issue was the inaction taken against noise on the campsite. The website says quiet time is from 9pm. I personally think this is too early, however there were screaming children past midnight and cars driving prior to 6am on the gravel driveway, which was very loud. I appreciate poorly behaved children are the responsibility of the parents, however the rules ought to be enforced by staff. The toilet and shower block, while good, were not maintained as well as it should have been given the volume of people. There was never enough loo roll or handwash. Although I must point out that some people are vile and really need to clean up after themselves and not expect someone else to do it. Dirty pigs. In all, we visited for a second time because the first went so well, however our second visit was quite horrendous and I doubt we'll put ourselves through it again. It's a shame as we really liked it the first time we stayed, but the second time was such a degradation in facilities and care that it's really put us off. The problems that exist can be very easily managed, but I'm surprised, given the amount of previous reviews alluding to the same issues, that they haven't been. Lastly, despite what the website says, there is no WiFi for the guests, let...
Read moreWe booked weekend tickets to the Harvest Balloon Festival 2022 after attending last year as campers. It's a great weekend and lots was on offer from food and drinks vendors. A schedule of live music to enjoy too. The event has clearly grown in popularity and the organisers have done well to expand the set up in line with that demand. However it has lost some of the intimate charm having to build a stage for music acts which became big bands rather than individuals on acoustics, and the speaker set up clearly had some sound issues, constant feedback and then a disapointing lack of volume for the balloon display unlike last year. Unfortunately with hot air balloons you are very reliant on perfect conditions to fly so the early evening flight was cancelled. This was unfortunate for those who had come with young families as it's sold as a balloon festival and there are no balloons seen until the night glow at around 9pm. When the balloons do go up they look super impressive, especially reflected off the lake. They are supposed to light up to music but that seemed to be hit and miss with the ongoing sound difficulties. There seems to be plenty of parking at the venue for day vistors with an overflow carpark opposite too. It's unfortunate that the exits for both car parks meet the same junction on the road and getting out of these after the balloon night glow was complete gridlock and chaos. This could be better managed but was a victim of its own success with everyone leaving as soon as the balloon show finished and those with kids having to furiously rush off on mass having waited for the night glow show to have seen any balloons. it's a great place to camp especially when there is an event on but be warned the prices hike up for activity weekends compared to usual rates and compared with last year which is what put us off staying again. The facilities on site for campers are good with a large shower and toilet block in the middle which always felt clean, just over busy...
Read moreFound this site on pitch up we had to compromise with a tent as it stated we could not take our trailer tent so imagine our frustration when we got there and there were trailer tents everywhere 😳, not a bad site but definitely not somewhere for a long stay. Most people come and go within 2 to 4 days we stayed 2 weeks which led to some frustrations which we raised with management but nothing was done. pitches are way too close if you have a large tent when busy your crammed in like sardines and with no fire points that's illegal, soil is very sandy and rocky not really a grass pitch and pegs don't stay in after the rain they just pop back out due to the sand oh and the ant problem is quite severe. Not quite sure why they think it's appropriate to mow the grass and strim at 7am with petrol machines when everyone is trying to sleep but that was a regular thing durin our stay and had to explain that people come on holiday to relax and possibly have a lie in. Plenty of people were sold on the "2 fishing lakes" including us and their little more than ponds and totally unfishable as they both need a good dredging and lots of people we spoke to were very unhappy at this. Zero signal by any of the major networks which is not their fault but you'd kind of expect WiFi in the bar but this was not available as they had the card machine hooked up to that. No notices or idea of what was happening on the site or close by as the notice board hasn't been touched in months, the massage shack on site was closed for the entire 2 weeks in July but when we tried to book we were told it was fully booked😕 Given that this site is more than what we usually would have paid in Cornwall it was very...
