The accommodation was stunning, and has been tastefully decorated, with lovely pictures and décor throughout. The attention to detail in the restoration and conversion of the building was incredible. The owners have really considered and thought about the many different aspects of your stay. My wife is reliant on her mobility scooter, and we had access to an allocated disabled parking space nearby. Wendy’s Wing is all on the ground floor, with a ‘wet room’ bathroom. Additional mobility aids were provided to facilitate our stay. Other additional requests were catered for, to ensure our adherence to a medically prescribed Gluten Free Diet due to Coeliac Disease. The location of the property is central to Lincoln and Skegness and other seaside resorts, all accessible by car. The grounds were stunning, and absolutely beautiful. It was great to be amongst the wildlife, in such a peaceful and tranquil location. I think the clue is in the title of the accommodation “Retreat”! The site would make an ideal location for a poetry or art group, or meditation or yoga retreat. As well as being ideally situated, it was lovely to remain on site, and just chill out with the wildlife for several days. The layout of the grounds meant that each rental property had their own allocated table and chairs outside, to ensure Covid restrictions were adhered to. Usually there is a communal guest lounge, which was unavailable due to Covid. Access to an Information Room with lots of leaflets was available. Again, Covid restriction were adhered to, with no mixing with other households, and no returning of leaflets once touched by you. Antibacterial soap and alcogel was available in the accommodation. Jeanette and Rob were extremely friendly and approachable, whilst also being aware of your need for your privacy and personal space to relax. We benefited from having the owners on site, as any requests or enquiries were immediately dealt with in person. Additionally, they communicated really well and promptly by email, text or telephone. They both work extremely hard and are on the go, none stop all day, and even do the cleaning themselves! They are a real credit to their business. Thank you both very much for a lovely and...
Read moreEasy access to the site – follow the Caravan & Motorhome directions to the site’s gated entrance. There is sufficient room to park-up a twin axle caravan and car without obstructing the approach road. On entry the CL is immediately on the right – look out for the notice board with your allocated pitch number.
The CL hardstanding pitches each have 16 amp electric hook up points, are all flat and level and, unusually, each have a paved area where caravan utilities (Aquaroll etc.) are placed. Each pitch has sufficient room for a large twin axle caravan, awning and car which should be sited on the gravel. Note: Groundsheets are not permitted on the adjacent grass areas to prevent damage. There is free, excellent WiFi connection and a fenced area set aside for waste disposal and recycling. For security the site has CCTV to monitor those entering / leaving the site.
Within the extensive grounds there is a large lake, a modern building housing an excellent information point, book exchange, launderette, toilet and showers. Within this complex there is also separate accommodation – ideal for family and friends who wish to join their caravan / motorhome friends. There are also walks both on and adjacent to the site. During our stay we had the pleasure of seeing a family of geese on the site’s lake and barn owls.
Rob and Jeanette made our stay such a pleasurable experience and were only too pleased to recommend places that were tailored to our particular interests. These included places to visit such as nature reserves, aviation / aerodromes, local beaches and excellent local pubs with very reasonable priced meals and pleasant staff.
The site and its facilities are truly first-class and both Rob and Jeanette should be commended for their efforts – it is unsurprising that they have been awarded several prestigious awards including that of a ‘CL of the year’ winner.
We certainly rank this as being one of the very best CL’s we have visited and we will certainly be returning to at some time. We cannot recommend the CL and Rob and Jeanette...
Read moreMaggie’s Mews - couldn't fault it! Perfect for 4 - we were 2 couples and the accommodation was perfect. Everything felt very comfortable and there was a nice homely feel about the whole complex. Ate out at the George and Dragon - it was 'average' but had a really good (more expensive) meal at the Blue Bell in Belchford. Excellent cycle routes in the area and loads of information available on site for all activities or just chilling out at the attractive local villages We also enjoyed a long walk along the beach from Skegness, parking at Chapel St Leonards Point CP The cottages were very clean and quiet and the pretty courtyard a real suntrap, ideal for breakfast, afternoon tea with plumloaf which was waiting for us to enjoy and pre dinner drinks - a welcome bottle of wine was also much enjoyed. The double bedroom and ensuite upstairs was much bigger than the twin+ensuite downstairs but the latter was adequate for a short stay. Beds were comfortable and showers small but efficient. Kitchen equipment was pretty comprehensive and we coped very well with cooking for ourselves. The grounds were delightful and much bigger than expected, giving a nice view back and front. Rob and Jeannette were very helpful and always...
