REVIEW
i attended Bawdsey Hall in Suffolk to attend a 121 evening wildlife workshop with David.
I have to admit that I did not fully know what to expect on the evening at Bawdsey Hall with my starting point to achieve one shot of a badge,r based on the fact that wildlife will make their own rules and arrive when they are ready.
David is an experience photograpfer with a open style of communication sharing his view whist understanding your individual level. Both hides are great depending on the what you hope to achieve and we spend the evening in the new ground level hide. So after after agreeing that Nikon sits ahead of Canon [my view] and David sharing his fun view on my bean bags the evening started. Not know what would arrive and when is greatly exciting and frustrating but regardless of capturing the moment, watching wildlife in the fantastic grounds of Bawdsey Hall was an experience not to be missed. I have now learnt how quiet a Tawny Owl is whist hunting for food and missed the first three chances being lucky to catch the fourth. The evening just just got better with a Muntjac Deer arriving and the night finished in style with two badgers drinking from the reflection pool.
The 121 workshop was above my expectation and I enjoyed the 121 advice from David. I left Bawdsey Hall with more knowledge and this has lifted my photography to a further level
Highly recommend the evening to all regardless of your experience due to the balanced approach to learning on the...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a quirky place, in peaceful, comfortable surroundings with local wildlife for neighbours, then Bawdsey Hall is the place for you. The isn’t the Hyatt, Marriott or Hilton so don’t book it if that’s what you’re looking for but, in all honesty I had one of the best nights sleep I’ve had in years… ||David has a passion wildlife, evident from the numerous and splendid photographs displayed around the house. If it’s you’re thing, book a session in his sunken hide to watch the wildlife in his fabulously created ‘outdoor photo studio’. For those who think their stay here is expensive, please remember that David takes time and effort to try and encourage wildlife visit the garden for you to watch in the comfort of the rooms… The breakfast choice of continental or English was perfect, delivered on time outside your door. We’ve never experienced this before but, it allowed us to sit there and watch the wildlife together, with no distractions. If we wanted to chat to others, there are plenty of pubs around and the most amazing Sutton Hoo within 10mins drive. Perfect. ||We’ll be back and will definitely recommend to family and/or friends and hope that I will have stopped thinking that the coat of armour in the reception area was a spooky man standing in the corner every time I came down the stairs or through the door.||Thanks David for giving us the opportunity to stay in your...
Read moreMy wife and I spent three nights here. Our room was clean, spacious and well equipped with nice views over the private garden where we could see animals in the evening. The bathroom was also clean and spacious although across a corridor and we couldn’t get the shower to work properly. The breakfasts were good and on time.||||On arrival we killed time to avoid checking in before 4:30pm but then there was nobody present to meet us and this is obviously not unusual as the place was set up to allow self entry. Our only contact with the proprietors during the whole of our stay was on our second evening when a lady (who did not introduce herself) came to our room to tell us that we had parked in the wrong place and asked us to move our car ( at the time of parking the designated area had been closed off because of trailing, potentially live, electrical wires across the entry with a written instruction to park elsewhere).||||Covid measures set out in the house rules (wearing masks in the corridors and the use of supplied hand gel) were clearly not applied as the lady visiting our room had no mask although was clearly suffering a bad throat and the hand gel bottle by the front door was empty and seemingly mouldy throughout our stay.||||Because breakfast was brought to and left outside our room we did not meet any fellow guests so we had no social interaction at all during...
