My husband and I stayed at Melvin Country House on our way from Donegal back to Dublin. The location is beautiful and we were greeted outside by the sweet sheep living at the property and then warmly inside by Frances. We arrived a bit late in the day, but Frances still made us dinner - which was fantastic! I also had the highlight of my trip when I got to help feed one of the lambs (after driving around the Emerald Isle all week, it was my goal to meet some lambs!) and had a lovely breakfast cooked by Frances the next day as well! The room was spacious and we had all the amenities we needed! The location is great - close to Belleek and JUST across the border into Northern Ireland! If you stay, ask Frances about the difference between that border and the border in the 1990s! Living in an urban setting we wanted a quiet retreat with a hearty breakfast, and a base to explore the North West of Ireland during the day and return to recharge the batteries overnight. We booked a 4 night stay, based on online reviews and were extremely pleased with Melvin Country House. If we are to return to that part of Ireland, Frances and Martin's property will be top of our list.
A lovely quiet property - The other guests were a mixture of couples and families with pre-teen children. One young couple had their dog travelling with them and while you might expect a noisy night with dogs and young children, we had restful sleeps for all four nights.
All in all. the stay felt like a visit with extended family rather than a more formal owners and visitors...
Read moreI'm travelling around Ireland on a solo Motorcycle tour, I booked into the Melvin Country House yesterday, from the moment i arrived, i was shown my room and brought a cup of tea and some biscuits, the room itself is far bigger than i was expecting and very nicely decorated. ||As for Martin and Frances who own and operate thos place, its as if you've known them forever, nothing is too much trouble and they're just so lovely. It's that nice here, ive wnded up staying for another night. ||When i went for breakfast this morning 05/08/24, i couldn't believe the quality of the food and the service is second to none. The value of the room and all the amenities here is outstanding value for money. ||If you're looking for somewhere to stay over this side of the country, i 100% recommend here. ||Thank you both for your amazing hospitality.
