We received an email in response to one I sent the owners, in it they advised us that they would not be there to greet us and that we were to look for the metal chicken outside the cottage. Well when we arrived there wasn't any numbers or names on the cottages and no sign of a metal chicken so I had to phone the owners who then told us to look for the duck outside. This also happened to other families arriving, it was all very confusing.|Once in side it was nice to find a homemade cake and some free range eggs. After a 4hour journey the first thing we wanted was a cup of tea, after reading previous reviews saying there was tea, coffee, and milk. There was only coffee, NO tea bags, or MILK. Luckily we had brought some with us.|The cottage was clean apart from a few cobwebs in corners of ceilings. It was very warm inside even though there was no heating on, especially the bathroom, the towel rail seemed to be on very high, tried to turn it down a little but the knob at the bottom was broken and the thermostat was already at its lowest.|We didn't sleep very well as the bed was so hard that it felt like sleeping on the floor and gave us bad backs, this is down to personal preference though, some people love a very firm bed.|The eggs were delicious, we would have liked to buy some more like it said in the welcome folder, but unfortunately there was no one around to ask where to purchase these.|The cottages are situated in a quite area with easy access to Beamish Living Museum which was great as we went twice...
Read moreI do not wax lyrical about many places and I rarely write a review but this place deserves all the recognition it can get.||Due to work commitments I have had the absolute pleasure of staying in one of Louise and Hamish's cottages for the month of September.||It has been a faultless stay = pig run barn has two large bedrooms both with en suites, fluffy towels, great showers, brilliant mattresses with crisp white linen and enormous pillows (lots of them). ||A kitchen which is extremely well equipped - lots of pans, utensils - no problem cooking full Sunday lunch if that's your thing.||Dog friendly = ground floor is laminate so no issues with hair or mud !||Brilliant walks straight out of the farm yard into amazing countryside which is people and animal free (excluding the pheasants).||Down the lane is a brilliant little village shop and an amazing Italian restaurant with perfect service and food.||I really cannot fault this hideaway which is ten minutes from the A1 but a million miles from civilisation = if you need a stop over or a long vacation I would recommend this place...
Read moreStopped here back in March and forgot to leave a review! What an exceptional place to stay, the cottages are truly beautiful. We were left a freshly baked sponge cake when we arrived and I don't think I've ever seen more accommodating owners than Angus and Louise. I believe the Wi-Fi was a dongle for a laptop etc whereas as the youngsters that me and my partner are we were expecting a router to be able to connect to, however this probably made our stay just that touch nicer as it meant we were not on our phones all the time!
As for travel it is a short distance to get to beamish and it's around £15/20 for a taxi up to newcastle depending on where abouts (An uber can bring you from newcastle) however if you have a car that would not be a concern.
In conclusion I have to say this is the best money/quality ratio per night that I have ever had, I think I'll have a hard time trying to find...
