We had our wedding here and the wedding planner Stephen "helped" to organise the wedding. It was a constant battle to get in contact with him to ask the most basic questions. He was always off or "busy". This heightened the anxiety of everyone as it was a struggle to get any information.

Wedding guests were mistakenly told they had no booking, in which multiple phone calls were made to Bestwood until eventually they told us that they had a different booking system for weddings which the receptionist was not aware of?

Due to COVID-19 a DJ was not allowed, we understand this is not anyone's fault; however, they told us the bad news 2 days before the wedding, so it was impossible to organise something else, again another let down

The meals were either undercooked, overcooked and had dirty cutlery (which is even worse, considering the pandemic).

We paid for the Queen Victoria room and were very disappointed, considering the price. The curtains were filthy, the room was freezing, there were many cracks in the walls and the toilet wasn't working until someone came to fix it. The wallpaper was falling off the wall and there was ash all over the carpet near the fireplace, so it's clear that it was not cleaned properly.

We made the sensible decision to take the sheets off the mattress (I'm glad we did this just before leaving). The mattress was disgusting with multiple heavy stains, no attempt to clean it at all.

The staff (generally) and the surrounding grounds of Bestwood Lodge were nice and we appreciate that during COVID things will have been more difficult for all, however the disorganisation, lack of communication, and unhygienic rooms, dirty cutlery etc was not worth the value we paid, as this caused a great amount of disappointment, stress and confusion for all involved.

After the wedding we needed to get in touch with the wedding planner Stephen, as there were a few things left behind, including an easel which was stolen. We asked for the CCTV footage and we were given multiple excuses over the coming months. Eventually he stopped answering any of our emails and dodging our phone calls. The company Best Western who we complained to, couldn't even get in touch with him.

We had a MUCH better experience from a 3 star Premier Inn. We recommend that no one books a wedding here or stays as a guest as you will be heavily...

We arrived and were only 1 of 4 cars in the car park, after reading this review you will know why! We checked in at 2pm by a very laid back gentleman who seamed to have all the time in the world, we had to be at a wedding in 45 mins and I happened to mention that we were in a hurry because we needed to be there on time. I thought nothing of the comment at the time. We were informed that we had been “upgraded” to the king Edward suite. When we got to the room it was awful and can only be compared to faulty towers! Marks on the old fashioned furniture, 70’s style pelmet over bed with matching curtains and an old stained sofa which quite frankly needs to go to the tip! My husband had a shower and the riser bar broke off but that was the least of his problems as the water was scolding hot, he quickly jumped out and flashed to whoever was outside as there was no privacy glass in the bathroom! We complained about the room and the gentleman who checked us in was actually the manager, he said we couldn’t have a refund and that he wasn’t happy that I was rude to him when we checked in, not sure what that has to do with it plus I didn’t think I was rude, just making a comment about how we were in a rush. I think somebody would benefit from going on a customer service course because his unprofessionalism was just shocking! We finally moved rooms but it wasn't the one we were promised, third time lucky as they say. We finally got into one of the newly refurbished rooms, that neither was of a particularly great standard however it was clean. The lady who showed us to breakfast and checked us out was lovely. I think the manager needs to take a leaf out of her book. ||||Overall if you’re looking at staying at this hotel save your money and go to the premier inn...

Thank you Bestwood Lodge for pulling off the best day of our life.

We got married here recently and we have been planning this for almost 2 years with Bestwood Lodge and I must say all my appointments were very attentive and helpful. Brent and the team understood the assignments and I know I very demanding at time but nothing was too much for him and I could trust him to delivery and plan our day smoothly.

All our guests have said how perfect and smooth the day was, from the checking into the rooms as most of our guests were staying in the hotel. Rooms were ready early for people to get change before the ceremony in the chapel at 2pm. My husband’s mother was booked into one of the new accessible room which are very nice and spacious and close to the Chapel. The music in the ceremony was spot on. Even though I left my usb with songs at home. Brenton quickly downloaded the songs on his phone and saved the day.

The flowers and the decorations in the ballroom was amazing and the room was layout just as we wanted it. Some of our guests were fussy eaters but all the courses were 5 star quality and the presentation of the canapés and variety in the buffet. The food was definitely a highlight. I must mention that all the bar staff on the day worked really well and service was with a smile and keeping the bar stock.

Thank you bestwood lodge for making our wedding special and i am sure some of our friends will be using your venue again. We have already booked to stay again in the accessible room for our anniversary.

I also would like to mention Housekeeping team thank you for waiting around and sort our room out the first night and for all our...

I stay in hotels every week on buisness and always leave the most honest reviews I can. Firstly the staff were friendly and extremely helpful and greeted me with a smile which means a lot. The parking is fine loads of room The location is amazing and has lovely views The room is basic but was clean and did come with all the amenities I needed The hotel itself is in need of a makeover but no doubt would cost a great deal as it's a big beautiful old building. The only negative i have is the dining room and the food. It was very cold while i was waiting for my food and I could smell damp and a dirty smell coming from somewhere. When the food arrived it was nice but the chicken was very dry although the salad and chips were fresh. The dirty damp smell was overwhelming and did put me off the food a bit. Apart from that a nice stay but to summarise... Hotel needs work structurally Old damp smells need addressing especially in dining areas and customers need to feel warm in the dining area A big thanks to the staff they were amazing though.

Travelled all the way from Australia to be put in an uncleaned ‘Superior’ room. Thought we had upgraded to this room when booking online but this room was not like any of the rooms shown on website. Major fail here. Pretty disgusted actually. Unclean, broken window, mouldy bathroom, awful beds, dank smell, snot on tissue box, curtains failing, musky old second hand cupboards, old unreadable remote, dirty and stained welcome folder! The list goes on. We unfortunately had to stay one night as we were exhausted. We didn’t even use the shower. We have complained to management but still no reply to an email sent 3 days ago. We have also complained to Expedia. Have no idea how this wreck of a room was allocated to us as ‘superior’. Avoid at all costs. Still waiting for a refund for the nights we did not stay. The one star rating is for kitchen garden view outside the room 11. Never using Hotel Star ratings again because this certainly should not be listed as 3 star.

We booked this hotel for 1 night as a evening away from our busy home lives. On arrival the staff were lovely and welcoming and check in was easy. The building is beautiful and the room was spacious. The bed comfortable but the seal around the shower was dirty and there were hairs on the soap dispenser. Also good luck in finding the Japanese garden because we couldn't find it anywhere. When we opened the guest book to our complete horror there was a wrap of illegal drugs inside. Im not completely sure of its contents but after a Google search it seemed like possibly crack. Had there been children in this room i dread to think what could of happened. We handed it in to the lady on the reception who said she'd talk to housekeeping. I totally understand that the drugs were hidden inside a book and housekeeping wouldn't really be cleaning the inside of a book but this is absolutely unacceptable. Please be careful if staying here with small children
