This is our second stay at this park, and due to school holidays changing, unfortunately, we had to change our accommodation from a lakeside lodge to The Croft cottage, and we found this had an impact on the overall enjoyment of our holiday.
First off, on arrival, we found the cottage to be completely off the park, and is very poorly signposted, and we ended up going down residential drive. As per the website, The Croft is said to be next to an active farm, so we at least expected to see farm animals of some sort, but instead, we were met with a derelict building, where people in vans kept coming and going with furniture, there was an eyesore of junk out the front and out the back, and, an inactive farm that looked like it was falling apart. For over £1000 a stay, this is not what we expected at all.
On entering the property it seemed to be clean, but on closer inspection we saw that the place had a lot of cobwebs. We appreciate that there are spiders in these places, but the duster needed to be taken around. It was good there was TV's in each room, but the sofa's were terribly uncomfortable, and the log burner was full of half burned logs that hadn't been cleaned out. There were not enough matches provided either.
The kitchen seemed to have all equipment that was needed, but the washing machine didn't work, so unfortunately, we couldn't wash anything.
The bedrooms were large and airy, but the mattresses and pillows were very hard, and not pleasant to sleep on.
We were happy to have a hot tub, but this didn't have any temperature setting, so we were only able to use it at that set temperature. Only two of the jets worked, too. Really, that hot tub looked very tired. Also, there is no privacy from Dower House. A window looks directly on to the hot tub, and there are big gaps in the fence where people might look, which isn't what one wants when trying to relax in the tub, or wanting a quiet coffee outside.
In the main master bedroom, the blinds were thin, and needed upgrading as all night every night the security light went on and off, sometimes flickering, having an impact on how we slept. The shower in the master bedroom was hot and cold, every time we used it, not giving us a pleasant showering experience.
Overall, Bassenthwaite lake is amazing, our favourite part of the lakes, and there are some stunning views, especially with Skiddaw and Dodd Wood on your doorstep, but unfortunately, this cottage wasn't up...
Read moreThis is maybe our 10th visit to a Hoseasons park. This is quite remote - maybe 2 miles down a narrow single track road. There are NO facilities on site - no shop, no bar, no restaurant. There are a lot of lodges and I get the feeling the majority are privately owned. Ours was nice - it was designed for 6 persons although we were only 2 with 2 dogs. ||The lodge has plenty room but in our opinion, basic. Some touches like table lamps and wall hangings would make it more homely - it felt “cold” and blunt. The lodge seriously lacks storage for food - for only 2 of us, we struggled. How 6 folk would manage is beyond me. Much more cupboard space is required - we ended up having to store food in a bedroom. ||It’s a comfy enough lodge and very quiet, however…………..||There are 2 maybe 3 properties adjacent to the park which are being renovated. This meant we were woke at 0700 every morning, Including weekend, to the sound of banging, sawing, cutting - you name it. This co ti he’d throughout each day until around 5pm. A real shame as you don’t get to enjoy the tranquil peace and quiet. They also light large fires daily - this resulted in ash landing all over our decking and the hot tub, which required us to wash this area down before use.||Staff - we only saw one member of staff on check in (even then, I had to wait 10 minutes, wander through into the staff area and shout to get her attention). Apart from that, we did t see any other members of staff all week. ||Dogs are welcome but the park seriously lacks bin, dog bins, and lighting at night. My wife didn’t go out after dark as she felt a bit frightened - more lights and better lights definitely required on the roadways. ||A good place to base yourself (15 minutes drive to Keswick) but we wouldn’t return here. It just didn’t feel...
