Benview Lodges — Hotel in Great Britain

Stayed here 21st June for 2 nights in Lodge 6. When we saw the pictures online we thought it looked lovely so we booked. Turned up 16.30 pm on our first day to find out the hot tub wasn’t hot. This information is only stated to you after you have paid, through ExpediaVrbo. We were told 2 payments would come out our account 1 on 9th June other 21st, which I found odd, 2 days before our trip I got a message to say hadn’t been paid when I checked sure it hadn’t so paid it and then got check in details at this point stating hot tub may not be ready 1st night ( pictures attached ). The hot tub read 21.5 degrees at 18.26 pm still not ready by the time it was 23.16 pm is was still cold (pictures attached ). I sent a message to the host Aran who said this can sometimes happen 😄 and if we were not happy before the trip knowing the hot tub may not be hot ( after paying) we should’ve cancelled 😄 I told him we booked with a non cancellation. I woke at 02.58 am the following morning as I couldn’t sleep temp was now only 31.5, by 12.54 pm it was 34.5 so only heated an extra 3 degrees in 10 hours. On our last night it went down to 32.5 even after the host filled with hot water from the bath. The morning we left it was 34.5 still not hot enough as it’s meant to be 38.5, what was more worrying the hot tub didn’t have a proper cover just a thermo sheet although some lodges had proper covers. This place isn’t what’s on pictures online the host stated the pictures were only 3 weeks old due to new owners. Attached are the online pictures and the true ones. No blind/ curtain on main door so no privacy same in the kitchen and bathroom. Bedrooms without bulbs, curtain in lounge kept falling off as overstretched curtain hooks curtains too heavy, dirty frying pan, a lot of cob webs indoors, no plug for kitchen sink although a dishwasher, and no plug in then toilet sink, toilet light a glow worm had to leave on constantly, no free view as stated, a ring bell video attached near hot tub😮, a dog from on site that wondered into your lodge at every change. The hot tub never heat up therefore we had no use of it. The host Aran did agree onsite it was broke and that he would give us a full refund wether we get it or not is another story. Please do not go here and waste your money as it’s a hit or miss if the hot tub is working, this place is clearly not properly run. The reviews and pictures online are old ones and still have some bad reviews, this place had new owners May 2024. Clearly this place has had issues and still has to date. ...

Went for a relaxing family holiday. Everything started out great as the area was lovely and the lodges looked lovely. When we got in it was a bit run down but still not bad. The kitchen was a bit of a nightmare as the cooker never had any signs on what was what as it was rubbed off. We had no hot water for the 3 nights we were there which was poor as I know someone else had this issue before we arrived, so they should not have been letting out this lodge if that was the case. We should have left at this point but because it was our first family holiday since having the wee one we tried to make the most of it. We did have a lovely time away as we went out most of the time but I think the lodges need a bit of love and care before they can really be worth visiting again. Aran was nice enough and did respond promptly to our emails. To top everything off we were welcomed with an email when we got home to advise us that Bookings.com never took the money and if we did not pay they would blacklist us and take legal action. I found this really poor as I gave all my details to take the payment, so it was due to their mistake and I should not have been made to feel in the wrong or threatened with such action. I was going to discuss a discount due to the fact we had no hot running water but at this point I just wanted to be done with the whole experience. ||I would advise against going to the lodges with its current state but I do feel that it could be a beautiful and amazing trip away if renovated and done right. Arrived to the very beautiful location excited for our Monday-Friday stay with the family this April. We arrived a little early so had some lunch at the cafe/garden center on site which was nice and welcoming. We were shown around the lodge by the owner who was friendly and welcoming. Our first disappointment was that the hot tub was not hot enough for that evening, our second was that the kitchen was not fit for purpose. The oven didn't close correctly and the hobs signals had rubbed off so cooking was a complete guessing game. There was also no plugs for the bath or sink, the owner did give us one for the bath though when we asked. On the second night I burned my fingers feeling which one of the hobs was hot and discovered there was no first aid kit. There are no cereal bowls or bowls for that matter (we bought some a left some), the knives are useless. The beds were horrendous, it was like sleeping on boxes and there are about 3 TV channels with no WiFi or sky like advertised. We bought some dvds to leave for the next lodgers. Sadly we did not hit on for the weather and struggled to keep the kids entertained so left on the third night and couldn't cope with another sleepless night.
