We didn t stay in the hotel This reveiw is for the bar/grill Live locally ,went for a meal.Have been here infrequently over the years , not enough considering we are a short walk away. However we quickly became aware of why we don t visit. Very disappointing menu. Not much choice really, however chose best to suit us Sun afternoon and no availability of a roast .Hotel???? Menu was pub grub type stuff . They have the gall to call it Market m2enu....burgers/lasagne/sausage n mash etc Nothing out of the ordinary. I chose a starter chicken caesar salad, came without any chicken, required returning. Main course lasagne....remember the 4 meals for £5 from asda ....tasted better than this. I didn t eat it and to be fair they didn t charge me for it . Partner had small bowl of soup with a stale roll for starter . Main course 3 anaemic sausages with mash and gravy...said it was tasteless and he s not one to complain. Food really is bought in bulk and absolutely is not freshly cooked at all. I really think we were served microwave food.Quite disgraceful. This place requires a more imaginitive menu and consideration to change menu for the weekend, an experienced chef could do this. We were informed the manager was present .I saw her sitting nearby on her laptop. I would have welcomed to opportunity to discuss my thoughts with her however she didn t approach us to speak to us, despite the lovely apologetic waitress telling us she had spoken to her.BTW I fon t eork in hospitality at all . The staff were lovely and most apologetic. I feel sorry for them serving food they have to apologise for. Locally this area is crying out for a good restaurant with a nice bar area and this place ticks all the boxes. I know in hospitality , places are struggling post pandemic However, the customer also has the right to a good quality food in a hotel testaurant and good value for what they are paying.(It was £15.95 for 2 course) It's no wonder this place is empty night after night Positioned in an affluent area. Locals could go frequenting to this place if the menu was more imaginative and the...
Read moreHotel looks nice from outside, and inside is quite nice, it’s only taking a good close look you can see the age related wear and tear if it, so most wont notice. Plenty of parking spaces the whole time I was there. Checked in by very friendly gentlemen, room ok, smelled a little damp, even the cleaners shut the door to try to keep it in the bathroom, but I brought air freshener. I think I was next to an office or something as there was a lot of banging around very early most mornings, I’m an early riser, usually 5am ish but this was waking even me up.....??
Food overall good, not too expensive, we could tell there was a good and a not so good cook/chèf that worked there as we would have either a good breakfast (gauged by the poached eggs:) OR a good dinner, (never both) although nobody knew how to do very well done & crispy bacon. Also they used to do an early bird special with the menu, this has now ceased. Alcoholic drink is expensive, wether that is because of the Scottish laws now or just because they charge a lot, who knows. VERY busy with seminars and weddings & funerals, to the point where regular guests weren’t allowed into the dining area one afternoon. Ok overall, about the same money as a Premier Inn, but better than most of those I have stopped in (which we...
Read moreStopped at tgis hotel for 2 nights, the staff are very friendly and the place is beautiful. My one big issue was, I was woken at 5AM the first morning by the TV switching itself on, to say I was tired that day was an understatement. I ask the guy on the reception that evening if the TV's had an alarm on them. His response was no, there are no alarms in them as there is an alarm clock supplied in the room. He said that it was the first time it had ever happened. He said maybe Mayvis the ghost was responsible. The next morning gues what happened at 5AM. you guessed it, the TV switched it self on again. It was acceptable the first time, but not the next day too. I couldnt get to sleep as I was very annoyed so I left the TV on, I drifted back off to sleep sometime after 6AM. Then I was suddenly woken up very abruptly by a Fire alarm. Now I was really tired as now I had 2 hours sleep stolen away from me. Maybe this wouldn't be too much of a problem for some people, however I am in the recovery stage of having my pancreas removed after having a pancreatic tumour and fatigue an everyday thing without extra help from the hotel. Maybe if my request was taken seriously and somebody checked the tv, I would have...
