We travelled on the Thursday for two nights. This hotel is supposed to be a BEST WESTERN PLUS! I am a Diamond club cad holder with Best Western so have stayed in many of their Hotels.|When we had checked in and went to the bedroom it was lovely and warm. The bed was really nice. The shower room had a heated floor. The walls however were a different matter and were black and filthy in there grout in several areas an needed severe attention. We went down for a meal in the evening which stated on the information they had a very varied menu. I don’t think so. The dining area was freezing cold. There were 4 staff on duty including the Lady that who was the receptionist/ person that greeted you, was behind the bar, going into the kitchen ( hygiene risk) and three others. The company list it has an extensive menu for dining. It has not. Two of the options are salads. Two of the options are Pizza’s, one is a burger, one fish and chips and the last was a Chicke TIkka Masala. If that’s an extensive menu I’m amazed! My meal of fish and chips was really nice! We left the restaurant and returned to our room. The next morning we went for breakfast. I went to the table we had chosen, having chosen my coffee. The next moment a lady came over and said what would you like? I said sorry what do you mean. She said for breakfast. I asked her where the buffet was and she stated there wasn’t one. I asked why not as it’s not the normal thing. She said there will be tomorrow. I said why tomorrow and not today. “I don’t know”. So I decided I have the pastries etc.|The next morning, Saturday, sure enough there was a buffet for food. There seemed to be the usual items but I didn’t have any. The Reason being was the lids covering the food were disgusting. The food names were written in black felt tip on each lid. Never ever in my life have I ever seen such a shambles. Given they had hot food there were no pastries on offer!!!|The staff member I spoke to on check out told me there was no Manager, they don’t have one. They started about a week ago and then walked out. She had no idea about complaints forms, who I could contact etc. I don’t believe the staff are to blame for any of this as such, I believe the company and management are just compromising the team and guests with short staffing, reducing food at different times. Yet!!! this Hotel says it has a fantastic rating with many different organisations including this one. Our view from the window was onto what seemed like a large parking area for containers. Shocking. This Hotel needs a thorough assessment as to what’s going on and I would not book here again. I will be reporting it to Best Western as I am here given being a customer of theirs as well, this Hotel use...
Read moreThe one star is for the single employee onsite when we arrived at 17:45. He was welcoming and helpful. Everything else was poor.|On checking in, we mentioned that we had asked, when booking, for a restaurant reservation for 2 people at 19:30. We were told that the restaurant was closed because there was no chef! We had not been notified in advance of this or would not have booked. Late staff illness? No! By sheer coincidence, my granddaughter was playing for her County team in a golf final nearby and the team members and officials were booked in the same hotel, which I did not know. The team had been told over a week previously that there would be no restaurant food any night! (It is a legal requirement to provide a meal if a meal service is advertised, as the restaurant was.) We had to take expensive taxis to visit a restaurant.||Apart from that, the toilet seat did not fit properly, the bathroom smelled of urine, a lamp bulb fell out of a wall lamp, the basin did not retain water, the pillows were very hard - and we had a 'superior' room! There was no breakfast menu, but the lady who dealt with us was happy to cook what we wanted.||This hotel group seems to have problems. Until these are resolved, I would suggest looking elsewhere. The company will be lucky to retain the employee who greeted us: he and the public deserve better. My wife and I feel that we are due an...
Read moreLocation is great if like me you are breaking a journey because it’s very close to the A1. But as there is nothing else at the location it’s not so great if there’s no chef on a Friday night. So no restaurant. Dinner was a choice of pepperoni pizza or curry! No one seemed that bothered and in fact a little surprised that a woman travelling on her own might not have wanted to get back in the car after a 5 hour journey to look for somewhere to eat alone. No cooked breakfast either and a very uninspiring continental buffet which wasn’t worth what I paid. Car parking charge of £5.99 wasn’t clear on booking.com. That said, the room was a good size, clean and comfortable. Water was hot. View of broken down, rusty containers didn’t help the overall vibe of a hotel that needs to up its game. Very unclear what puts the Plus in Best Western Plus. Edited to add that having raised these issues direct with the hotel their response was that the restaurant was only offering two choices because occupancy was low - so if you do make the mistake of booking a room here make sure you check if anyone else is there! Shocking...
