If I could offer a zero star for this place, I would happily do so, thinking that I was over praising it. ||Booked dinner( for my wedding anniversary) weeks ago, advising that my daughter has a sesame allergy, I reconfirmed by email yesterday. ||We arrived and were told to get drinks before we sat down ( which we did).||We told the waitress about the allergy and she said she would check with the kitchen. So, for a vegetarian, options from a limited menu went down to one ( as the breaded brie might contain sesame, even though it did not say it did no the packet) for starter and 2 main curse. we all ordered fish - my daughter asked for vegetables not chips-apparently, this request was just too much for the waitress who said the vegetables would not be an option as they are cooked with mixed spice ( which does not contain sesame). Apparently, salad with addressing is out of the question too. Indeed, my daughter apparently frightened the waitress ||We left ( refusing to may for the drinks we had ordered to go with the meal)||||The levels of ignorance and lack of professionalism shown by the staff were staggering. This is 2021 FFS-. my daughter was humiliated by the abject laziness and lack of empathy by the staff. A sheer and utter farce. I was almost tempted to try to find the hidden camera and await a TV comedian popping out - perhaps Basil Fawlty, ||||Avoid this place like the plague - it is a disgrace. There are far better places to get a meal in the area - The Bower House were great, The Spa in the petrol station...
Read moreThis is a great place to stay over when visiting the area. Right on the main road through Holmrook so very easy to get to. Once inside the décor is pleasingly modern, TVs in the bar area and a large conservatory with views over into the fields opposite which serves as the restaurant (though you can choose to eat the full menu in either the bar or the restaurant). The food is plentiful and ranges from the sort of pub food you might expect to some quite adventurous dishes often with a Russian theme (try the Selenka soup!). All rooms I've stayed in have had enough space for relaxing and doing a bit of work, whilst there are some I'd describe as enormous. All are inoffensively decorated with TVs and suitable heating for the winter. Service is excellent (though generally a theme of the area) however the staff are mostly Eastern European which can make conversations, whilst perfectly friendly, a little abrupt and potentially more difficult than otherwise. That being said the owners are always about and generally deal with orders and checking/outs so it really...
Read moreChef/owner extremely rude. Working away from home and got a portion of chips from local takeaway to take to my room and for the first time ever in hundreds of hotels I was approached and asked “what was in my bag” personal question first of all , and to then be made to turn around from reception and made to eat dinner in my van as I wasn’t allowed snacks or chips in the room!! Very smug and horrible unfriendly attitude from the person with no consideration, not told anywhere or no signs anywhere saying no food in room. On my way to the van the guy was trying to get me to then sit in the bar with my chips after a shift and eat but absolutely not. He only tried to stop me on my way out because he realised what he had done, Would rather sit in the van at this point Paid over £130 to eat my snacks and chips in my work van because of the rudeness of the chef and then sleep on an uneven spring bed. Never again will I stay in there, bearing in mind there is nothing about so limited to pick up food on way home. Horrible....
