Wow, just wow. Our little hide-a-way was just heaven from start to finish! (Minus the Highland winds but not much can be done for that at this time of year!). As me and my husband couldn't decide where to go for our anniversary, it was a last minute booking and, with that in mind, it was still the best Scottish Highlands trip we've taken so far! The hot tub was preheated for our arrival, the bed linen and towels provided where cotton soft, the decor was true to the name "The Coup", and we even had tea, coffee, sugar and a lovely treat of local shortbread biscuits ready for us too. The reduced light pollution was the perfect opportunity to do some late night star gazing in the hot tub, which just made it extra special. With lots to do and see locally such as visiting Dunnet Head Lighthouse which was only a short drive, doing some Christmas shopping in some of the unique shops in Thurso with plenty places to eat out and heading up to John-o-groats for the equally spectacular views. Every ounce of thought and love has gone into this family run business and it really does show. Thank you for allowing us to visit your little peice of tranquility with the most amazing views! The area is lovely, the views are great and the idea of the pod is wonderful. Positives - lovely location, clean pod, hot tub was amazing, views were outstanding in rain or shine. There is a park and firepit area which look nice - we never used these but a nice add on for those with children. Negatives - washing line was broken and dumped to one side, radiator was broken, toilet seat was off to the side and wobbly, welcome pack promised biscuits that weren't there, we paid an extra £10 for the dog to stay and was promised a goodies bag including bowls but this wasn't there on arrival either, attempted to make contact regarding the issue but they never got back to us, on the day after arrival the lights stopped working with only a small lamp to light the whole pod for the remaining stay. The idea of the pod was lovely, we have stayed in a few different pods all over Scotland over the years, but personally we would not go back to this one or recommend to others.

We had a fantastic trip away here in the coop, we were so sad to come home! Lovely spacious pod, extremely comfortable bed and a beautiful view. We had tried two near by butchers, the butchers of Castletown and North coast butchers in Thurso, both were fantastic. The pod comes with absolutely everything you need, even oil for cooking and heats up very quickly so be sure to put up the heat when you're going in the tub so the Pods nice and cosy for you coming out. A few nights the wind was so strong we weren't getting any signal on the TV so I'd recommend bringing some dvds. There's so many beautiful sites to see here and we will definitely be back

We booked a last minute weekend break at Braeside Retreats during the October School Holidays and safe to say we were not disappointed. Travelling with my wife, daughter and dog we have often found cabins to be cramped, but these had plenty of room. Full size bed and a sofa-bed which was easy to fold-away for daytime use as a sofa. A little kitchenette with decent sized fridge (and freezer compartment) with a 2 ring hob, microwave and oven, kettle, toaster etc. ||The cabin (Hive) was spotlessly clean and everything had been thought of, from kitchen utensils to biscuits, tea and coffee. ||Welcome instructions were sent in advance with guidance re how to access the key safe. WiFi was good and tv signal was strong considering how remote the location really is. ||The site is kept immaculately clean, with bins at the main road, a dog waste bin amongst the cabins, little play park for the kids with communal fire-pit adjacent, even a robot mower cutting the grass! ||Location-wise, the cabins are in the middle between Thurso and Castletown, with plenty of local amenities, takeaways and supermarkets/grocery stores. We explored Thurso, Dunnet Head, Wick and John O’Groats - all within a half hour drive. The beaches were fantastic too. A 5minute drive to Dunnet / Castletown Beach - with miles of sand for the kids/dogs to burn off some energy!||Back to the cabin of an evening and the private bbq at each cabin was great for toasting mallows before a dip in the hot tub!||(Bring spare towels for the hot tub) - each cabin has a small outdoor clothes line to aid with drying towels/costumes!)||You can see by the sheer number of 5* reviews just how good these cabins are! We would absolutely return!||(Also thanks for helping with the return of the set of keys I stupidly...

Had a lovely stay at the Braeside Retreats. Ideally located to get about the north coast, Dunnet bay nearby, short drive to John O Groats, a bit further afield to Wick and Thurso naturally on your doorstep. The site itself is very clean and well kept, there's even a wee robot grass cutter working away diligently when called into action! The views across the bay are amazing and the site itself is fairly tranquil due to the distance between each pod. Hot tubs felt huge compared to other sites, nice outdoor furniture and a bbq if you fancy cooking outdoors. Inside the pods, they feel really spacious, nice kitchen with everything you'd need to self cater for the week, good sized fridge as well. Complimentary coffee, tea and sugar on arrival too. Naturally the pod shows some signs of wear and tear, merely signs of being open over the summer season and being in use, nothing that can't be addressed! The only thing I would point out is the lack of storage, if you're the type that likes to keep the place clutter free then maybe summit to consider lol honestly everything else about the pods make up for this minor thing and ultimately I'm not marking it down based on this either, would highly recommend and would stay here again! Dog friendly is an absolute...
