Booked the Boot room (loft room above a separate apartment, which can also be used as a full cottage). We booked this in January 2020 before the pandemic and suubsequent lockdown, as our base for Castle Howard's Last Night of the Proms event which sadly did not take place this year.||We have camped, stayed in various lodges and static caravans during our many visits to the prom but this time as our ages have increased found this little gem of a b and b set within 2 miles of the castle.||Thank god we did. It more than met our expectations. One enormous bed, big enough to maintain social distancing lol. Small hotel style fridge, tv, kettle and toaster etc.||We opted for the small breakfast which was ace. Farmhouse bread, crumpets, home made yoghurts, cereals, home made jam, fresh fruit. Cafetierre coffee as well as the most instant coffee and what else but Yorkshire tea!!!.||We were messaged by our hosts to say that we would be checking ourselves into the unit as a result of the rules regarding b and b's reopening which we did but were greeted at the gate by Richard and then Kim who offered to help us with our bits of luggage. What a lovely, friendly and approachable couple they are.||The Brush and Boot is located in a gorgeous area with very few neighbours and is ideal for people wanting a quiet holiday away from everything but many facilities exist within a 5/6 mile area anyway.||I have to mention The Geapes Inn at Slingsby were we ate with our daughter and her partner, who were camping a couple of miles away. 4 meals and drinks and only came to just over £64 - bargain or what.||As regards the Brush and Boot, we wouldn't hesitate to book again in we are...

On a clear night, lots of stars, so relaxing having a glass of wine and just watching the night sky!||The cottage was amazing, I am disabled so we opted for the bedroom downstairs (which had no TV to watch in bed - the very only downfall to the whole week!), My brother and his wife had the upstairs bedroom - they struggled with the stairs at first but soon got used to them!||Was absolutely amazingly clean and we left it just the same, I don't want anyone to think that we aren't welcome back! ||Nearly everything essential else was there ready for our use - salt, pepper, tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, dish wash tablets (though I did replace the ones I used!), laundry liquid, cloths, tea towels, toilet roll - I could go on tbh!||What would be nice and where we've had this before is, a small bottle of milk, a small loaf, a small tub of butter and a bottle of red and/or white wine or prosecco as a nice treat after a drive...
Read moreWe, (my wife and I with our 2 children aged 11 and 7) stayed at the Brush and Boot and had a great 4 days. |The underfloor heating is superb, it was minus 6 outside and we had t-shirts on, the beds and bedding are very comfortable. |We did not get to enjoy the walks locally due to the cold but we spent a lot of time in York and other areas locally. |The owners are a lovely couple and nothing is too much trouble. |It was spotless inside and out with a well equipped kitchen, bathrooms are also very good quality with great showers. |I would definitely stay again and would 100% recommend staying here. |One thing to consider is that there is a steep staircase to the upstairs bedroom, it is fine for able bodied people but if you are a bit unstable on your feet best to use the downstairs bedroom, it was not a big issue for us as we are all fairly young...
