We stayed in Traprain cottage for a few days in July. The cottage itself is gorgeous, the beds are really comfortable, shower has lots of water pressure, the kitchen has all the supplies you might need, and the Nespresso machine is a hugely appreciated touch. And having the hot tub just outside the back door is just wonderful! There"s a guidebook in the cottage that tells you everything you might want to know about what to look for in the cottage itself, as well as about the history of the area, and the restaurants and other facilities available nearby. Trudi has thought of everything, and is such a gracious and helpful host! She and Eric live in the nearby farmhouse (but they don't intrude on your stay), and they have staff available as well, so they are super-responsive if you have questions. When we were there, a farmshop was about to open, full of local and regional produce and supplies; that will be a truly fantastic addition for people staying in the cottages, and anyone else passing through. Having the option of adding loch swimming and other experiences associated with your stay, is also great. Carfrae is in a really beautiful location, and there is so much to do in the area (we love firepit s'mores!) and to explore around it. It's also not far from Edinburgh and from nearby beaches. We went to both during our stay there, and while Edinburgh is always amazing (we had previously stayed in one of Trudi's city flats, which was also an excellent experience), Carfrae is such a peaceful--and comfortable--end to a day of city sightseeing. I can't wait to have...

We had the best holiday in over two years with my family at Carfrae Farm Cottages in July 2021.

The cottage was just perfect for our stay. It was very spacious, well equipped and refurbished to a high standard. The views from the cottage were amazing and so tranquil.

The owner of the cottage is lovely and made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

We made good use of the hot tub which was the icing on the cake. All my family just loved their stay and although Carfrae Cottage is out in the country, it's only a ten to fifteen minute drive to the nearest village, town or beach. Super place for walking as well.

There is so much to do, in and around East Lothian, just great for a family or couples holiday.

I'd certainly have no hesitation in booking Carfrae Farm Cottage in the...

We had a much needed and very relaxing two nights at Carfrae Farm. The communication from the owners was excellent, very responsive. The cottage itself is so cosy and beautifully decorated and furnished, it felt like being in a hotel. The beds were so comfortable! There are lots of small touches like towel robes, luxury toiletries, coffee pods that make this feel really special and the information left in the cottage was very clear and helpful. We walked by moonlight to the local pub in Garvald the first night and I would highly recommend; delicious food, super friendly owners and a warm and cosy setting. We also explored Haddington and had lunch at Falko's German Konditorei which was also excellent. We will definitely be booking a...

Carfrae farm cottages are a brilliant way to get away from it all for a weekend! My husband and I have booked and stayed twice now, and would absolutely recommend to others and return again. The owners are very friendly and chatty, and available if you need them. The cottage we stayed in was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for self catering. The hot tub and log fire was a great bonus to the cottage, and we enjoyed using them! The farm shop is really handy for things you may need and worth a visit.

We had the pleasure of staying at Carfrae Farm as part of our first family holiday since restrictions were lifted at the end of April 2021. The cottage had just been opened and was better than could be expected. The attention to detail throughout the cottage and the high quality of workmanship was evident in every room. Trudi was extremely welcoming and a pleasure to meet, she gave our family a tour of their farm and we were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived.
