We booked a short family break during February for a birthday celebration. |We arrived during the evening so it was a bit tricky to find in the dark. First impressions we thought it looked quite cosy and warm. Unfortunately we had a very disappointing first morning! We were woken at 7am by workmen working on a lodge behind us! Not a great start after a long journey the previous day! We spent most of the day out but returned late afternoon before going out again in the evening. The work force had grown since the morning and they didn't leave until around 5pm. The following morning we didn't see any workers until 9am so not as bad as the previous morning. On the second day my daughter discovered dust and cobwebs around the bunk beds so refused to sleep there for the rest of the break. Unfortunately we also discovered very thick dust behind the double bed which had obviously been there for a while. We vacuumed behind that before we left! The lodge itself was ok for providing the normal home comforts but we did have to take our own towels. |All in all the area we were in was quite nice but be prepared to do a lot of driving if you want to visit lots of other places. The lodge was ok but the housekeeping could have been better but unfortunately the rude awakening...
Read moreWe went to Charlcot (Cedar Lodge) from 9 - 16th October. Since I last went about 8 years ago the lodges have been re-clad and modernised inside, with an extra bathroom and modern kitchen. They now have wi-fi which is handy as the mobile phone signal is non-existent until you drive towards Masham. A modern TV and nice fire in the lounge plus 2 smaller TV's in the bedrooms offer everything most visitors would want. Ideal for guests with dogs the lane outside has little traffic and is lovely for walking your four-legged friend.||||The only complaint would be the mattress in the double bedroom is very thin (4" thick at most) and if you sat in bed reading for any length of time you could feel the slats. A new mattress would be a real advantage.||||There was no handbook for the microwave which defied the intelligence of both myself and my partner how to make it simply heat up something on full power for a couple of minutes, an instruction sheet for this would be useful if the handbook has been lost.||Apart from that we had a lovely relaxing week, so did the dog, and we would...

Well equipped kitchen and linen provided although you need to bring your own towels.||pleasant enough lodge and location not to far away from masham and local amenities.||Struggled a bit for a whole week without a washing machine.||to make things a little more comfortable a dvd player (we had sleet/snow and very cold weather and with no wfi or signal kids were a little bored at times) and a rug runner would be beneficial in the winter months so not to ruin the lovely pale...
