It’s not often I feel that I would want to award full marks to a place but I have no hesitation in awarding full marks to Dene cottage. The cottage was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. Helen was an excellent host, who seemed to have thought of everything and had clearly put a great deal of effort in trying. to ensure that guests had everything they could possibly need, from an extensive range of kitchen utensils and crockery to maps of the surrounding area and things to do, books and board games. The cottage is quite rural surrounded by some lovely countryside and we found it a good base to explore the area by car; although for people who enjoy just walking Helen had provided maps and suggestions for the local area. The welcoming wine, scones and jam which greeted us on arrival were a lovely touch and set the tone for what was a wonderful stay. We certainly hope to be back and have already recommended the cottage to family...
Read moreWe have enjoyed several stays now at Dene Cottage whilst visiting family in the area, and it never fails to delight each time. Situated in a beautiful and peaceful location, close to wonderful woodland, scenic vistas and close enough to the superb beaches along the Northumbrian coast, we felt spoilt for choice.
Dene Cottage itself is cosy, well equipped, tastefully decorated and is the cleanest holiday cottage I've ever stayed in. Everything has been thought of and it really is a home from home. The information booklet/folder about the house and surrounding area is very helpful. The owners very generously provided a small welcome package of some tasty treats and drinks, which is a nice touch. The owners are very hospitable and are hand for any enquiries but likewise are also unobtrusive.

Read moreA perfect cottage for a couple. The owners have thought of every little detail to make this a home from home, right down to things like cooking oil, freezer bags, even the ice cube trays were filled. The bed was very comfortable and the location is so quiet and rural. The lounge was very cozy with the log burner, a blanket, dvd player and games and a christmas tree. Loads of lovely places to visit nearby- e.g. warkworth, holy island, bamburgh, alnwick, simonside, thrunton woods. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite very wet weather (which was helped by the cottage having a washer dryer, boot tray and a drying stand!)....
