Fantastic hotel, quiet, beautifully appointed, very attentive and helpful staff, this really is a delightful place to stay, I cannot recommend it highly enough!
We had three nights at this stunning location, one in Room Maud, and two in Room Harriet. Both rooms are extremely well appointed and well decorated and laid out, both with views across the adjacent tarn.
The afternoon tea was another delight, served in the lounge, which at this time of year has been lovingly decorated with Xmas decorations and fresh flowers.
The breakfast is well presented and well cooked, with a good choice of both hot and cold dishes, and I would highly recommend the porridge.
There is a very nice boathouse which can be booked for a tranquil and quiet time where you can enjoy comfy chairs and a nice fire, with food and drink ordered from the hotel.
Due to the current Covid19 situation the pool is prebooked only, but is another nice place to relax for an hour or two, there is also an external hot tub which is a nice way to unwind, and again drinks can be partaken of here. It should be noted that there are normally two external hot tubs but one has been damaged by the recent storm, but I'm sure it will be up and running very soon.
The storm has sadly uprooted quite a large number of trees around the tarn, and within the hotel grounds (very sad), so at the moment the circular walk around is not possible, but again I'm sure it will be at some point in the near future, and it in no way detracts from the enjoyment of the hotel and it's grounds.
Whilst dining is taken at the main Gilpin Hotel, either in the Michelin starred H'rishi or Gilpin Spice, a car service runs between the Lake House and the main hotel, in a very luxurious electric Jaguar, and again the service is excellent (its only a 5 minute trip).
The hotel is lovely and quiet, the staff are very welcoming and attentive (but discreet), and the hotel is beautifully decorated and furnished, a real credit to the owners, and to the entire team.
This was our third stay, postponed from last year due to lockdown, we have already booked for the same time next year....and frankly...

I had an Afternoon Tea with prosecco gift voucher from work to use ...we left feeling guilty that money had been wasted on it.
Very small portions for the price (£39.50pp), tiny slivers of sandwich, bite-size desserts and 1 scone each, nowhere near value for money.
We turned up at the Gilpin hotel originally thinking it was the right place. We were then given a map and told it was only a few minutes down the road .... little did we know the road was closed, meaning we were diverting around for 40 mins lost 🫤 The actual Lakehouse seemed like we were in someone's actual house - not what we were expecting/difficult to find. My colleague and I both said we would have had a better experience at St Mary's hospice café in Ulverston😅. Staff were nice, the food &price a let-down. Left...
Read moreWe stayed for 2 nights in the Lake house and it wasn't long enough! Everything about the Gilpin was amazing. The house is just beautiful and so are the grounds. We stayed in the Harriet suite and had a view over the lake thanks to 4 floor to ceiling windows! Guests can book slots for exclusive use of the facilities such as the pool, hot tub and boat house which meant total privacy. We booked the boat house to have our dinner one evening and it was just perfect. We can't thank Tom, Janine, Val and all the team enough for everything they done for us during our stay. We're already planning...
